Walkthrough
  1. 1
Melee Combat: Geralt uses Silver Swords for monsters and Steel Swords for humanoids. Unlock Fast/Heavy Attacks, Whirl, and Rend through the Combat Skill Tree. Fast attacks are quick but weaker; heavy attacks are slower but stronger. Use heavy attacks on unaware or stunned enemies.
  2. 2
Ranged Combat: Utilize the crossbow for ranged attacks. Time slows slightly when aiming. Different bolts offer various effects. Enhance aiming with the Marksmanship skill tree for slower time, increased critical damage, and ability disabling.
  3. 3
Finisher Attacks: Trigger stylish executions when an enemy's health is low by pressing the prompt. These are automatically enabled by default but can be toggled off.
  4. 4
    Avoiding Attacks:
  5. 5
Blocking: Nullifies most melee attacks but is less effective against magical/elemental damage.
  6. 6
Staggering: Time block just before an enemy attack to deflect and stun them for a counterattack (melee only).
  7. 7
Dodging: Quick side/back step to evade attacks while maintaining close distance. Useful for unblockable attacks.
  8. 8
Rolling: Similar to dodging but creates more distance. Useful against large monsters with area attacks.
  9. 9
Deflect Arrows: Time block to deflect incoming arrows/bolts.
  10. 10
Additional defensive abilities can be unlocked in the Defence portion of the Combat Skill Tree.
  11. 11
Magical Signs: Consume Stamina. All five signs are available early, with upgrades in the Sign Skill Tree.
  12. 12
AARD: Force push to knock down or stagger enemies. Can break weak walls out of combat.
  13. 13
AXII: Temporarily stun single enemies. Can be used in conversations to influence outcomes or calm animals.
  14. 14
IGNI: Fire wave that damages and can set enemies on fire, causing damage over time. Can light torches and complete quests.
  15. 15
QUEN: Creates a protective barrier that drastically improves defense, draining Stamina over time.
  16. 16
YRDEN: Creates a magical trap that slows enemies and pulls spectral creatures into physical form.
  17. 17
Alchemy: Geralt can craft potions, oils, and bombs using reagents. Recipes are bought, found, or rewarded. Once crafted, they auto-replenish during meditation if alcohol is available.
  18. 18
Bombs: Various types with different effects.
Tips
  • Switch between Fast and Heavy attacks based on the situation. Heavy attacks are best on stunned or unaware enemies.
  • Consider disabling automatic finishers on higher difficulties to avoid frustration.
  • Experiment with dodging and rolling to find what works best for your playstyle and the enemy type.
  • Utilize Signs strategically; Quen is excellent for defense, Igni for damage, and Aard/Axii for crowd control.
  • Alchemy items can provide significant advantages; always try to have essential potions and bombs crafted.
