After character customization, you spawn near the bus station. Receive the 'Getting Started' quest to check your phone.

Read the message from 'Unknown' and go to the payphone to talk to 'U.N.' (Uncle Nelson).

Uncle Nelson instructs you to find his stash near the skatepark, on the ledge leading to the motel. Collect $375.

Speak to the motel manager, Donna, in the house next to the motel to get the 'Rent a motel room' quest.

After the dialogue, you can pickpocket Donna to steal back the $75 needed for the room.

Enter room 1 of the motel to complete the quest objective.

Return to the payphone to speak with Uncle Nelson again, starting the 'Gearing Up' questline.

Go to the hardware store (marked by a yellow star on the map, or by walking forward from your room until the road ends, then turning left).

At the hardware store, deposit your cash at the ATM. Then, purchase a grow tent, a soil bag, and a watering can from Dan. It's also recommended to buy 'Plant Trimmers', a 'Packaging Station', and 10 'Baggies'. Optionally, buy a trash grabber and a 'Trash bag'.

If you tell Dan you're a drug dealer, he may gift you 'Speed Grow'.

Return to your motel room, place the grow tent, and fill it with soil.

Go back to the payphone to talk to Uncle Nelson, who introduces you to Albert Hoover.

Open your phone and send a message to Albert Hoover to order seeds. Select 'I need to order a [dead drop]' and purchase one 'OG Kush' seed.

Albert will deliver the seed to a highlighted [dead drop] location around the city. Pick it up. Your debt is put on a tab.

Return to your motel room and sow the OG Kush seed in the grow tent by pressing 'E' when prompted while holding the seed.

Fill your watering can at the sink and water the plant.

Sleep to advance plant growth (around 45% grown if you sleep at 4 AM). Plants grow about 15% per in-game hour.

Once the plant is fully grown, use the 'Plant Trimmers' on the grow tent to harvest the buds.

Place down the 'Packaging Station'.

Interact with the packaging station, drag baggies to 'Packaging', and buds to 'Input'. Press 'Pack', then drag each bud into a baggie, and the baggie into the hopper. The packaged weed will appear in the output.

Tips

You can change your appearance in the game files, and in future shops like the barbershop, clothing shop, and tattoo shop.
Speed-runners often open the motel room door and immediately step out to start the next quest.
Depositing all cash at the ATM is safer as you won't lose it if caught by police or if you die.
When buying items from the hardware store, you can add up to 10 at a time to your cart, or select a custom amount. Items that don't fit in your inventory are placed on pallets outside.
Holding Shift while grabbing items from storage allows you to take the entire stack. Right-clicking and scrolling allows for custom amounts.
Buying a trash bag is recommended to remove the trash can in the motel.
It's recommended to keep buying OG Kush seeds as they are easier and cheaper to mix into better products.
Albert Hoover's deliveries are placed in [dead drops] which are highlighted if they contain items.
