After the intro cutscene and character customization, you spawn in front of the bus station.

Open your phone ('Tab') and read the message from "Unknown" to start the "Getting Started" quest.

Go to the payphone to meet "U.N." (Uncle Nelson).

Uncle Nelson instructs you to retrieve his stash near the skatepark, located on a ledge by the motel road. You will find $375.

Speak to the motel manager, Donna, to get the "Rent a motel room" quest.

After the dialogue, you can pickpocket Donna to steal back the $75 needed for the room.

Enter motel room 1 to complete the quest objective.

Return to the payphone to speak with Uncle Nelson again.

A new questline, "Gearing Up," begins, directing you to the hardware store (marked by a yellow star on the map, or by walking forward from your room until the road ends, then turning left).

At the hardware store, you'll receive quests to deposit cash at the ATM and purchase a grow tent, soil bag, and watering can. Use the "MAX" button at the ATM to deposit all your money.

Speak to Dan at the hardware store to purchase items. It's recommended to also buy "Plant Trimmers," a "Packaging Station," and 10 "Baggies" for upcoming quests. Optionally, buy a trash grabber and a "Trash bag" to manage trash.

If you tell Dan you're a drug dealer, he may give you "Speed Grow."

Return to your motel room, place the grow tent, and fill the pot with soil by pressing 'E' when prompted.

Go back to the payphone to speak with Uncle Nelson, who introduces you to Albert Hoover.

Open your phone and send a message to Albert Hoover to order seeds. Select "I need to order a [dead drop]" and purchase "OG Kush" seeds.

Retrieve the delivered seeds from the highlighted [dead drop] location. Your first order takes 30 in-game minutes (30 seconds) to arrive; subsequent orders take about 4 in-game hours (4 minutes).

Pay off your tab by placing cash in the [dead drop] behind the hardware store.

Sow the weed seed in the grow tent by holding the seed and pressing 'E' when prompted.

Fill your watering can at the sink and then water the plant in the grow tent.

Sleep to advance plant growth. Plants grow about 15% per in-game hour.

Once the plant is fully grown, use the "Plant Trimmers" on the grow tent to harvest the buds.

Place down the "Packaging Station."

Interact with the packaging station, drag baggies into the "Packaging" spot, and buds into the "Input" spot. Press "Pack," then drag each bud into a baggie, and the baggie into the hopper. Packaged weed will appear in the output.

Tips

Speed-runners often step just inside the motel room door and immediately leave to complete the quest objective quickly.
Depositing all your cash at the ATM is safer, as you won't lose it if caught by police or if you die.
Holding Shift while grabbing items from storage allows you to take the entire stack with one click.
Right-clicking an item and scrolling allows you to select a custom amount to grab.
Buying OG Kush seeds is recommended even when other varieties become available, as it's easier and cheaper to mix for better products.
If you sleep at 4 AM, your plants will be about 45% grown, and you won't waste water or time.
