Character Creation & Customization: After a short cutscene, customize your character. This choice is permanent for your save file, though appearance can be changed later via game files or in shops like the barbershop, clothing shop, and tattoo shop in the full release.

Starting the Game & 'Getting Started' Quest: Spawn near the bus station, receive the 'Getting Started' quest, and open your phone ('Tab' key). Read the message from 'Unknown' to find 'U.N.' (Uncle Nelson) at the payphone. He instructs you to retrieve his stash near the skatepark, yielding $375.

Renting a Motel Room: Speak to the motel manager, Donna. The quest updates to 'Rent a motel room'. You can pickpocket Donna to retrieve the $75 needed for the room. Enter room 1 to complete the objective. Uncle Nelson will then want to speak to you again at the payphone.

Buying Equipment & 'Gearing Up' Quest: A new questline, 'Gearing Up', begins. Go to the hardware store (marked by a yellow star on the map, or by following the road). Deposit cash at the ATM and purchase a grow tent, soil bag, and watering can. It's recommended to also buy 'Plant Trimmers', 'Packaging Station', and 10 'Baggies'. Optional purchases include a trash grabber and a 'Trash bag'. If you tell Dan at the hardware store you're a drug dealer, he may gift you 'Speed Grow'. Return to your motel room, place the grow tent, and add soil.

Planting Your First Seeds: Talk to Uncle Nelson, who introduces Albert Hoover. Check your phone for a message from Albert. Order seeds (e.g., 'OG Kush') via the message interface. Albert delivers seeds to a highlighted 'dead drop' location. Pay debts by placing cash in the dead drop behind the hardware store. Sow the seed in the grow tent. Water the plant using the watering can (fill at the sink). Plants grow approximately 15% per in-game hour. Sleeping after watering can speed up growth and conserve water.

Harvesting and Packaging: Once the plant is fully grown, use the 'Plant Trimmers' to harvest the buds. Place down the 'Packaging Station'. Use the station interface to drag baggies into the 'Packaging' spot and buds into the 'Input' spot. Press 'Pack', then drag each bud into a bag, and the bag into the hopper. Packaged weed will appear in the output. You can also unpack weed. Jars can also be purchased at the hardware store for storage.
