Quake Champions is a PC-exclusive, multiplayer-focused first-person shooter described as a "competitive arena-style, character-based shooter." It draws inspiration from Quake III Arena and Quake Live, with a visual design influenced by the original Quake. Players select from a roster of "champions," each possessing unique passive and active abilities that influence gameplay. Active abilities have a cooldown of roughly 30-45 seconds, which can be reduced by in-game items. These abilities operate on a rock-paper-scissors system, encouraging strategic team composition. While abilities are present, player skill remains the primary determinant of victory. The game does not feature loadouts. It includes leagues and ranks, with modes ranging from duels and deathmatch to team-based play, and was designed with an esports presence in mind, aiming for inclusion at QuakeCon. Compared to Quake III Arena, Quake Champions places a greater emphasis on team-based modes due to the presence of champion abilities.
