Learn to identify and counter common player archetypes in Quake Champions, including Lurkers, Pattern Runners, Frag-a-thoners, Snipers, Cautious Types, and Campers, to gain a strategic advantage.

This chapter discusses various player archetypes in Quake Champions and how to exploit their weaknesses.

A. The Lurker
This player typically guards valuable weapon, armor, or health caches. They are often tough due to their position. If caught unprepared, they can be difficult. If a Lurker is in the lead, expect a challenging match. To defeat a Lurker, lure another player into their area. When conflict erupts, attack the Lurker while they are engaged. Alternatively, if chased by a Lurker, lead them towards your pursuer. The ensuing fight between the two can be exploited. If alone, gather resources and an explosive weapon like the grenade launcher. Find a vantage point to attack the Lurker indirectly with grenades. They will likely emerge to attack you, so switch to a rapid-fire weapon like the Super Nailgun and prepare to dodge.

B. Pattern Runner
This player follows a set route to collect items as they respawn, often timing it perfectly. This strategy can be nearly unbeatable if perfected. The only way to counter is to intercept a key item in their cycle and defeat them before they recover. This is difficult as they are usually well-equipped. If they are slightly off their timing, you can try to jump ahead in their pattern, though skilled players will maintain precise timing.

C. Frag-a-thoner
This player grabs a weapon upon respawning and aggressively hunts opponents, improving their loadout with each kill. The best strategy is to stalk them until they engage someone else, then attack them while they are distracted. Frag-a-thoners often neglect armor if it's out of their way. If alone with one, lure them to an area with limited maneuverability and attack relentlessly.

D. Sniper
Snipers use explosive weapons from hard-to-reach positions. They are annoying but can be countered by ignoring them or waiting them out. They must eventually leave their perch for ammo. When they do, engage them directly. Snipers typically have poor close-quarters combat skills.

E. Cautious Type
Similar to a Frag-a-thoner, this player retreats from heavy damage to find health or armor, even if it means traversing the map. While not usually difficult, they can be defeated by stalking them until they engage another player, then attacking. If alone, feign weakness and lure them into a pursuit. Turn a corner, switch to a powerful weapon, and unload as they appear.

F. Camper
Campers sit near deathmatch spawn points with a weapon, targeting respawning players. They are usually easy to defeat because they neglect their surroundings and rarely hunt for armor or ammo, focusing solely on spawn kills.
