Courtyard and Bottom of the Well 1F (2)

Guide to Luigi's Mansion's Courtyard and Bottom of the Well 1F. Find Mario's letter, defeat Bomb Droppers, and discover secrets.

The 1F floor corridor is now lit and safe from ghosts. Remember to water the plant in the boneyard (reached from the Kitchen) again; it should bloom into a flower this time. This can be done anytime during the third area.

Head for the sealed door in the top-right corner of the corridor to enter the mansion's courtyard. You'll find a fountain, plants, trees, statues, and ghosts. A large statue in the courtyard holds a big heart (50 HP), unless you are playing the NTSC version.

Pink blobs will appear; vacuum them to make them disappear. A fountain surrounded by four plants contains Water Ghosts. Water all four plants for money, gems, and hearts.

Follow the trail to the left, where you will be attacked by a Bomb Dropper falling from a tree branch. You will encounter three more Bomb Droppers from other tree branches. After defeating them all, a treasure chest containing money will appear.

Go down the well to advance. To the left, a cut-scene will play showing Mario trapped in a painting. Since this area is sealed, you must go back. A Bomb Dropper will appear; defeat it to obtain a key for the door in the left-most area of the Courtyard.

Return to the Courtyard and go left. Pick up Mario's letter from the nesting box. This is one of Mario's dropped items and can be shown to the Fortune-teller. Inside the hut, which can be opened by vacuuming from the right, you will find a Toad. Save your game and proceed to the next room.
