Master Hitman: Absolution's combat mechanics in Part 11. Learn about shoulder switching, Point Shooting, Rampaging, weapon carrying limits, and ammo acquisition.
Walkthrough
- 1Combat Mode Shoulder Switching: Unlike most third-person shooters, Absolution allows you to switch your aim from the right shoulder to the left. This is crucial for peeking and shooting around corners more effectively, minimizing exposure to enemy fire when aiming right.
- 2Silenced Weapons: Silenced weapons allow for stealthy takedowns. However, shooting one person in a group, even with a silencer, will alert the rest of the group to your position.
- 3Backups: Causing significant trouble can trigger enemy backups, who may have unique weapons or disguises. These backups are limited to about six to eight enemies.
- 4Weapon Carrying Limits: You can carry two pistol types, one sub-machine gun/rifle type, and one Sniper Rifle. You can only carry two different pistols if one of them is the Silverballer.
- 5Ammo Acquisition: Ammo is automatically picked up when you walk past a weapon or come across ammo boxes. Ammo for one weapon type is interchangeable with others in the same class (e.g., all pistols).
- 6Point Shooting: To engage Point Shooting, hold the Instinct Button then press the Activate Item Button. Time slows down, allowing you to aim precisely. Use the Right Analog Stick to move the reticle and the Combat Button to lock shots (red crossbones for fatal, white circle for non-fatal). Press Activate Item Button again to execute all locked shots. Point Shooting consumes Instinct; faster execution uses less. You exit Point Shooting when Instinct runs out or the weapon clip is empty. Certain Assassin Techniques can decrease Instinct usage.
- 7Rampaging: This involves clearing an area of all enemies. While it goes against the typical Hitman approach, Rampaging aids in full area exploration, collection of weapons, disguises, and objects for Lost and Found, and makes completing certain Challenges easier.
- 8Firearm Types: There are six different firearm types. Ammo is class-based, meaning pistol ammo works for all pistols, etc.
- 9Silencer Modification: Silencers can be added or removed from weapons by holding down on the D-Pad, but only if the weapon is already equipped with a silencer. You cannot add a silencer to an un-silenced weapon.
- 10NPCs and Dropped Weapons: Unlike in previous Hitman games, Guards and Civilians will not pick up dropped weapons to use against you.
Tips
- Utilize shoulder switching extensively to gain a tactical advantage when engaging enemies around cover.
- Conserve Instinct by mastering the speed of Point Shooting and by unlocking relevant Assassin Techniques.
- Consider Rampaging in sections where you need to find collectibles or complete specific challenges that are easier with fewer active threats.
- Always be aware of your surroundings for ammo pickups, as they are automatic.
