Follow our guide to complete the Return of the River favor in God of War Ragnarök. Learn how to start it, defeat enemies, and restore water flow to The Jungle.
Alright, so you want to get this 'Return of the River' favor done in God of War Ragnarök? It's a pretty straightforward one once you know where to look. First things first, you'll need to have finished the main story quest called Creatures of Prophecy. After that, head over to Freyr’s Camp and wrap up the Scent of Survival favor. That’s your ticket to The Crater, and from there, you’ll need to make your way to The Jungle. If you're not sure how to get there, check out the 'How to Reach The Jungle' page for the specifics.
Once you finally drop into The Jungle, don't get too distracted by the Ogre tossing boulders across the canyon. Your goal is to find a ledge to your west. Drop down there, and you'll find a poison totem. Freeze it up, then push past it. You'll run into a couple of Wulvers next. Take them down, and then climb the wall right behind them. Boom! You're at the dam, and the favor should kick off automatically.
How to Complete the Return of the River Favor
Now that the favor's started, just follow the path. You'll hit a gate with some enemies in front of it – you can't open it yet, so just keep going. You'll find some vines blocking the way; burn 'em like usual. Then, hop on the lift behind them to get to the upper part of the dam. As soon as you step off, you'll see more enemies. Clear them out, then look for a wind vent on the wall nearby. Hit it with your spear, then detonate it. This will blow a big enough hole for you to squeeze through.
On the other side, you'll see a Dreki snatching some wildlife before diving back into the water. This actually triggers the start of the What Lies Below favor, but don't worry about that for now. Turn your attention to the side and you'll find two more enemies. They seem to have a nasty habit of regenerating their health, but the easy way to deal with them is to just knock them into the water. No need to hunt down that Nokken!
With the area clear, focus back on the dam itself. It's covered in vines. The first set is easy enough to reach with your Blades of Chaos. The second set, though, is a bit trickier and will require some Sigil Arrows. You'll want to set up about three large Sigils in the right spots. This should be enough to burn through the second set of vines without needing to mess with the wheel and runic disc. Once those vines are gone, turn the nearby wheel. This will raise the levees and get the water flowing again. After that, just head back through the crack in the wall you made earlier. There's a little cutscene, and that's the end of this favor!
