Follow this Fallout 3 walkthrough for 'Paving the Way' to navigate the battlefield trenches, disable the Pulse Field, and defeat General Jingwei to liberate Anchorage.
Walkthrough
- 1Head north out of the base, past barbed wire and into missile fire. Follow stairs to a series of trenches.
- 2Enter the first trench, head west, then north-west up a ramp.
- 3Continue into the next trench to the north-east, heading east and killing Chinese Soldiers.
- 4In a wooden shelter to the left, find Intel #9. Continue east until you can turn north-west.
- 5Find an Ammo Dispenser to the right of a ramp. Head up the ramp and west past three sandbag fortifications.
- 6Turn north past the third fortification and into the final trench.
- 7Continue north-east through the trench, encountering Chinese Soldiers with Assault Rifles, Flamers, or Missile Launchers, as well as Spider Mines and Crimson Dragoons.
- 8The path forks near a bunker with two Mark I Turrets. The eastern path has a Health and Ammo Dispenser.
- 9Head north, then west at the next fork to find a subterranean barracks with a "Chinese Terminal".
- 10Head east, then north. Find a cubby with Health and Ammo Dispensers. Stock up and head up a ramp to the north, out of the trenches.
- 11Head into ruins to the north, where another bunker with Mark I Turrets is located.
- 12Head west past barricades, defeating Chinese opposition.
- 13Beyond an impassible barricade, observe a Vertibird dropping off T-51b Power Armor clad soldiers.
- 14Continue north through a doorway to the right to find a building with a Health Dispenser.
- 15Continue north to reach the Pulse Field, beyond a blue barrier and barbed wire barricades.
- 16To the west, find an intact building with a sniper's nest. Dispatch the sniper and search the building for Health and Ammo Dispensers.
- 17Go up stairs to the east to locate the bunker. Hack a Turret Control System terminal [Average] or destroy the turrets.
- 18Return west to the sniper's nest, then south past red metal crates and barricades to reach the area near where the Vertibird landed.
- 19Head west, then north to a series of barricades with Chinese Soldiers.
- 20In a building to the west, at the southern end of the barricades, find a Health Dispenser.
- 21Continue north past barricades until a blue barrier blocks progress.
- 22To the west, find a small metal shelter leading to the Pulse Field.
- 23Go through the metal shelter and north-east down a ramp.
- 24To the east is a bunker with Chinese Soldiers and Mark I Turrets. Dispatch them.
- 25Continue east to a metal shelter on a concrete base. Inside, find the final piece of Intel #10 on wooden crates.
- 26Push the button inside the shelter to disable the Pulse Field.
- 27Run north across the field after the Pulse Field disables.
- 28Head through a door into the Chinese HQ.
- 29Talk to General Jingwei. Succeed at a Speech challenge for him to commit suicide, or kill him.
- 30Exit the Simulation Pod.
- 31Head south down the hallway to the Outcasts.
- 32Access the "Secure Access Terminal" and open the blast door.
- 33Enter the secure room.
Tips
- The “Close Assault Package” is useful for disabling the Pulse Field.
- A Combat Shotgun is effective against the enemies in the third trench.
- A single, well-aimed shotgun shot can destroy Mark I Turrets.
- If you postpone destroying the turrets in the bunker in the ruins, you'll have a better vantage point later.
- T-51b Power Armor clad soldiers with Miniguns will assist you significantly.
- Hacking a Turret Control System terminal requires an [Average] skill.
- The final piece of Intel is found in a metal shelter on a concrete base.
