Your guide to the Ranger Compound in Fallout 3. Learn how to find it, what loot to expect, and the characters you'll meet. Your home away from home!
Alright, so you've been running around the Capital Wasteland, probably getting into all sorts of trouble. Eventually, you'll want a safe place to stash your gear or just catch a breather. That's where the Ranger Compound comes in. It's basically the headquarters for Reilly's Rangers, a group of mercenaries you might have helped out during the quest Reilly's Rangers.
Finding the place:
- First off, you'll need to head to the Anacostia Crossing Station metro. It's just north of Rivet City.
- Once inside, you want to exit at Seward Square. Make sure you're heading straight east and don't go down to the train tracks.
- From the metro exit, go north, past the Cornucopia grocery store.
- Take the first alley you see to your east.
- Follow that alley around, and when it turns north, look for an eastern passage. The compound will be on your left.
It's in a pretty beat-up building, and you'll notice a camera and a computer terminal guarding the entrance. Don't worry, once you've met Reilly or completed the Reilly's Rangers quest, you can use that terminal to unlock the doors. And hey, good news – you can loot everything inside without losing any Karma! Score!
Inside the Compound:
- If you turn left right after entering, and then go straight, you'll find the bedroom/mess hall area.
- There's a mattress on the floor you can use to rest, and the locker against the wall is safe for storing your precious loot.
Who you'll find there:
If you managed to save them during the quest, you might find some familiar faces hanging around:
- Reilly
- Donovan
- Brick
- Butcher
Notable Loot:
- Keep an eye out for a Dean's Electronics skill book. It's usually on the generator in the pantry. Sometimes it falls off, so you might need to nudge it out with a grenade if it gets stuck.
- Up on the roof, on the highest reachable floor, you'll find five ammunition boxes. Two of them need a Lockpick skill of 50 to open. There are also two first-aid boxes, one of which also requires a 50 Lockpick skill.
- The building has two extra floors you can reach by stacking stuff and jumping. The 4th floor has three Nuka-Cola vending machines, and the 5th floor just gives you a nice view.
A word of caution: If you decided to off Donovan (maybe for his unique helmet?) or any other Ranger after the quest, be warned: all the remaining Rangers will become hostile. So, tread carefully if you're looking to snag some extra gear!
