Follow our comprehensive Fallout 3 walkthrough for 'The Waters of Life' quest. Discover terminals, hidden books, unique weapons, and essential tips to progress.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
A Ring Terminals: Locate two terminals south of the courtyard. The Maxson Archive Terminal provides lore on Brotherhood founders and mentions the Vault Dweller. The Vault-Tec Terminal reveals details about Vaults, including Vault 87's G.E.C.K. and the grim purpose of others. Accessing these bypasses the need to ask Rothchild for computer access. East of the courtyard, a Pentagon Library terminal discusses UFOs and FEV. Continue east to find B-Wing.
  2. 2
The Lyon’s Den: East of the courtyard entrance is the Lyon’s Den. Speak with members, including Paladin Glade and Gallows. Succeed in a Speech challenge with Gallows to learn his name, then tell Glade to receive 1000 Caps. Find a copy of Guns and Bullets near the beds. Head into B-Wing.
  3. 3
B Ring Terminals: Search the barracks for missing Paladins or Knights. Footlockers contain minor loot. Check the Citadel Personnel Terminal and Citadel Information Terminals.
  4. 4
Robot Poetry?: North of the barracks is a hospital run by Mr. Handy Sawbones. Activating him damages you, but a Science check can repair him, allowing him to heal you. A [Very Hard] terminal and a [Very Hard] safe are in this room. The terminal contains robot poetry and can access the medical storage safe.
  5. 5
Scribe Jameson: Find Scribe Jameson in A Wing or B Wing. She offers to buy Brotherhood Holotags for 100 Caps each.
  6. 6
Squire Maxson: East of the A Ring exit is Squire Maxson’s room. Hack his [Very Easy] terminal and check the “Guns and Bullets” entry to learn about a hidden copy of the book under Vargas’ bunk in the Lyon’s Den. In A Ring, go to the room marked “The Den” with four beds; the book is on the floor by the southernmost bed.
  7. 7
Elder Lyon’s Solar: South of Scribe Maxson’s room is Elder Lyons’ living quarters, marked “Solar”. In the back, find the note “Elder Owyn Lyons – Personal Log 1”, a [Very Hard] terminal, and a [Very Hard] safe. The safe contains “Elder Owyn Lyons – Personal Log 2“, 300 Caps, and the unique Laser Pistol **Smuggler’s End**. Return to A Ring and go downstairs to the Laboratory.
  8. 8
Looting the Laboratory: Speak with Scribe Bowditch, who can repair gear. You may find Doctor Li, Agincourt, Garza, and Dargon if they survived. Find a copy of Duck and Cover! in the eastern bathroom’s wooden crate. The Mess Hall and Citadel Lab Terminals are worth checking. Upstairs in an eastern room is Power Armor, and downstairs in a northern room is a Plasma Rifle. Knight Captain Durga sells items if you get permission from Elder Lyons. The Liberty Prime Operations terminal provides information on the giant robot.
  9. 9
Vault 87: Talk to Rothchild to locate Vault 87. The only path is through Lamplight due to radiation. This is the next main story objective, but there are other tasks to complete first.
  10. 10
Almost Perfect: Before continuing the main quest, complete all other available content. Aim to reach level 30 to obtain the Almost Perfect perk. Collect Scrap Metal and Pre-War Books to turn in, along with quest rewards and Enclave soldier drops, to gain experience.
