Divinity: Original Sin 2 The Merryweather walkthrough covering the Tutorial Deck, Lower Deck, and Upper Deck, including how to start Death Belowdecks.
Walkthrough
- 1After waking in the hold of The Merryweather with a Source Collar, report to Magister Siwan upstairs. If playing an Undead character, a Grinning Skull will offer a warning about keeping your face hidden.
- 2Explore the hold: move a crate blocking the south door to access an animal pen. Ignore the sheep unless you have the Pet Pal talent.
- 3Find a vase in a corner surrounded by crates; it contains random loot and a Cargo Door Key.
- 4Use the Cargo Door Key on the nearby door. Search the galley for items, including a Pocket Knife in a barrel.
- 5Find a _Stern Letter from Siwan_ on a table, mentioning pressure plates and crates.
- 6Return to the previous area, pick up crates, and place them on the pressure plates on either side of the locked door to open it.
- 7Enter the prison area. You can remove oil on the floor by throwing a candle on it.
- 8Interact with Hemwar in a cell and Magister Rennart (sleeping guard). Pulling the lever by Hemwar's door will wake Rennart.
- 9You can attempt two Persuasion checks to resolve the situation with Rennart, or attack him (he has 15 HP). If you attack Rennart, Hemwar will attack you afterwards. Neither gives XP, so avoiding them is an option.
- 10Go down the stairs to find an Electric Discharge Scroll on a table.
- 11Go to the top of the other set of stairs and search the barrel next to the Laboratory Door to find Lockpicks. If you killed Rennart, a key is on his remains.
- 12Grab Minor Healing Potions from tables. These can be combined into a Medium Healing Potion restoring 120 Vitality.
- 13Near a locked door, there is poison and an Ooze Barrel. Throwing a candle near the Ooze Barrel can blow the door open.
- 14Use a lever to open the door back to the starting area.
- 15Head up the ladder to the Lower Deck.
- 16On the Lower Deck, find a Mortar and Pestle and a Jawless Skull. Combine them to create Bone Dust.
- 17Speak to Magister Siwan and register with Magister William.
- 18Go through the door behind Siwan. Speak to Magister Cadoc and Magister Marel.
- 19Speak to Magister Waters, who initiates the quest Death Belowdecks, believing Finn was murdered by a fellow prisoner.
- 20Elf/Fane (with Mask of the Shapeshifter) specific: While Waters' back is turned, use sneaking (↓ button) to search Finn's body and find a Chunk of Flesh. Eat it to recover Finn's memories, learn who murdered him, and unlock the Adrenaline skill.
- 21Continue through the door past the Magisters and find a Bedroll.
- 22Speak to people in the sleeping quarters to meet future companions. Find a Greasy Key on top of a barrel near Ifan to open the scullery door.
- 23In the scullery, grab supplies and read a poster.
- 24Speak to Magister Payde, who opens the door to the stern room.
- 25In the stern room, find Magisters questioning Windego. She admits to the murder and uses Source Blast, killing the Magisters and knocking you down.
- 26Fane specific: Windego takes the Mask of the Shapeshifter.
- 27After regaining control, search the Chest with Confiscated Goods for weapons. Loot the dead Magisters for gold.
- 28Go up the stairs in the stern room to the Upper Deck.
- 29On the Upper Deck, douse flames blocking the path with a water barrel.
- 30Go through the door on the left and pick up a Gold Cup.
- 31If you break down the door to the stern room, you can find Magisters Murtof and Ricks.
- 32If you have Persuade 2, you can convince them of your innocence. Otherwise, you must fight them (they are injured). Search the desk for a Resurrection Scroll.
- 33Proceed towards the bow. The key for the door with a skull painted on it is on the remains of Magister Priest Medwyn nearby.
Tips
- The Pocket Knife found in the galley is a better starting weapon than no weapon.
- Combining Minor Healing Potions creates a Medium Healing Potion that restores 120 Vitality.
- Steering clear of Hemwar and Rennart on the prison level is advisable as they offer no XP.
- If you are an Elf or Fane with the Mask of the Shapeshifter, eating Finn's Chunk of Flesh is crucial for unlocking the Adrenaline skill and learning about the murder.
- The Bedroll found on the Lower Deck is useful for healing outside of combat.
- The Greasy Key near Ifan opens the scullery door.
- Magisters Murtof and Ricks on the Upper Deck are injured, making them easier to fight if persuasion fails.
