Learn how to navigate and conquer The Wandering Dungeon in Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Discover objectives, boss strategies, and treasure hunting tips.
After completing the main game and defeating Gabriel Celeste in the Cave of the Seven Stars, you can explore The Wandering Dungeon. On En II, enter the Old Road to the Sanctuary. You will find Barago near the entrance to the Old Road. Talk to him and he will offer to take you to the dungeon.
Note: Before entering, consider checking the 'Shopping in the Wandering Dungeon' section for potential Item Creation in advance.
The Wandering Dungeon has multiple levels, and to complete it, you must conquer every floor and defeat the final boss on Floor 20.
Navigating The Wandering Dungeon
Each floor consists of connected rooms with a randomly generated layout and shape upon entry. Each floor has an arrival point that also serves as a Transfer Symbol to exit the dungeon and return to the Old Road. On each floor, find a small obelisk with spinning rings. Examine it to learn the objective required to advance to the next floor. As you descend, floors will have more rooms. Remember your arrival point and the obelisk's location.
Obstacles are minimal. Some rooms may contain large crystal blocks; examine the side with the circular symbol to make them recede into the floor.
Once you enter a floor, you can only advance to the next floor or exit. You cannot return to a previous floor. Leaving and returning restarts you on the first floor, with all previous layouts and objectives randomized again.
There are no Save Points or Recovery Points within the dungeon. Ensure you bring ample healing and resurrection items, as you are committed for the duration once you enter.
Advancing to the Next Floor
Examining an obelisk reveals the objective for the current floor. There are four possible objectives:
- "Defeat our assassins...": You will automatically enter a series of battles against enemies typical for the floor. The number of ambushes increases with depth. Winning all battles transforms the obelisk into a Transfer Symbol to the next floor.
- "Destroy the abhorrent crystals...": Elemental crystals of various colors appear throughout the floor. Use Disintegration Rings charged with Disintegration Stones (obtained from monsters or found as drops) to destroy all crystals. Ensure every room is cleared before returning to the obelisk. Completing this objective makes the obelisk a Transfer Symbol.
- "Bring to us at least 'xx' geostones...": Geostones are found as treasure or dropped by monsters. The character with the appropriate "-ology" skill must be in the battle party for Geostones to drop (e.g., Arumat with Entomology for Adephaga Prox). Once you have enough Geostones, return to the obelisk, which will take all your Geostones and transform into a Transfer Symbol. Geostones disappear if you leave the dungeon.
- "Show us a Seraphic Doll...": The obelisk requires a Seraphic Doll (not a Sacrificial Doll). Obtain one by defeating the floor's boss, which appears in specific room shapes. Upon defeating the boss and obtaining the doll, return to the obelisk to activate the Transfer Symbol.
Odd-numbered floors present objectives 1, 2, or 3. Even-numbered floors feature a boss battle with objective 4.
Treasure Hunting in the Wandering Dungeon
Collect items from Treasure Pods, similar to those on Planet Aeos. These can contain anything from common items like blueberries to rare ingredients such as dragonblood crystal.
