Resident Evil 3: Nemesis weapons guide covering the Knife, Handgun, and Merc's Handgun, including ammo, capacity, and effective strategies.
Weapon parts and ammunition types are covered in section [3.2].
KNIFE
Ammunition: N/A
Capacity: N/A
Check: Dagger knife for self-defense.
The Knife is the sole melee weapon for most of the franchise's early entries and is typically used as a last resort. In Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, ammo is more plentiful than in the original Resident Evil, making the Knife less essential unless you are a poor shot. While wielding the Knife, your character is locked in place, increasing risk. It deals minimal damage, requiring you to back up and dodge while whittling down enemy health. Standard Zombies are the most viable targets due to their slow movement. Pressing Down on the D-pad while aiming can slash a Zombie's legs, knocking it down and slowing it further. Practice is highly recommended for anyone attempting to rely on the Knife.
HAND GUN
Ammunition: Hand Gun Bullets, Hand Gun Bullets Enhanced
Capacity: 15 rounds
Check: M92F Custom. A custom handgun made for S.T.A.R.S. It uses 9mm parabellum rounds.
The Beretta 92 semi-automatic pistol and its variants are iconic. In Resident Evil 3: Nemesis lore, the 92FS is the base for the custom firearm known as the "Samurai Edge," produced by the Kendo brothers for the Raccoon Police Department's S.T.A.R.S. unit. Jill's standard Handgun is a faithful companion, holding fifteen rounds with a decent rate of fire, capable of handling individual Zombies. However, it is ill-suited for close-quarters situations or large groups. It is useful for igniting explosive barrels without wasting more potent ammo. Keep a fair distance and stick with weak or slow-moving targets for best results.
MERC'S HANDGUN
Ammunition: Hand Gun Bullets, Hand Gun Bullets Enhanced
Capacity: 15 rounds
Check: SIGPRO SP2009. It's mainly made of plastic and is very light. It uses 9mm parabellum rounds.
The SIG Pro SP2009, chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum, was introduced in 1999, making its presence in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (set in September/October 1998) an anachronism. This handgun functions identically to Jill's M92F Custom but is only available while playing as Carlos during Chapter 6 or when selecting Nicholai in The Mercenaries mini-game. Brad Vickers also wields one in Chapter 1.
- The Knife is best used for precise strikes on weak points or to conserve ammo on standard Zombies.
- Handgun Bullets Enhanced offer more stopping power than standard Hand Gun Bullets.
- Utilize the Handgun's ability to ignite explosive barrels from a safe distance.
- The Merc's Handgun is a functional equivalent to Jill's Handgun, but its availability is limited to specific scenarios.
