Learn how to navigate the Fiery Path in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, find valuable TMs like Toxic, and discover useful Pokémon like Torkoal and Machop.

Hey there! So you're heading into the Fiery Path? It's a pretty straightforward cave, but there are some cool Pokémon and items to snag if you know where to look. Let's get you through it!

Pokémon You'll Find:

  • Common: Numel, Koffing, Torkoal
  • Uncommon: Machop, Slugma
  • Rare: Grimer

You'll encounter a few new Pokémon here that might be worth catching for the short term. Torkoal is a Fire-type with surprisingly good defense, able to tank a few Water attacks. Its other stats are decent, and it learns some solid moves, so it could be a good addition. Machop is a fantastic Fighting-type that evolves into Machoke at level 28 and then Machamp via trading – it's got great stats and moves. Numel is also here and evolves into Camerupt, which is a Fire/Ground type. On the other hand, Slugma isn't really worth your time; it's slow and its evolution, Magcargo, gains the Rock typing, adding more weaknesses without a significant boost in power. Koffing and Grimer are Poison-types. While they have their uses, Poison isn't the most popular type and has several weaknesses, so they're probably not great for the long haul.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
As soon as you enter the Fiery Path, you'll notice there are no trainers. Just keep heading north through the cave until you find the exit on the other side.
  2. 2
About halfway through, you'll spot a boulder. You'll need the Strength HM to move it, so don't worry about it for now. You'll have to come back later after you've beaten the Lavaridge Town Gym Leader, Flannery.
  3. 3
Once you have Strength and return, you can move the boulders. You'll eventually reach a fork in the path where you can go either up or down.
  4. 4
Head up at the fork. After moving some boulders, you'll find TM06: Toxic. This is an amazing move that poisons the opponent, with the poison damage increasing each turn. Seriously, almost any Pokémon can learn it and it's incredibly useful.
  5. 5
Now, head back to the fork and take the south path. Move the boulders around here, and you'll find a Fire Stone. We'll save using that for another day, but it's good to know it's here!
  6. 6
Once you've grabbed what you need, leave the Fiery Path through the north entrance.
Tips
  • Remember to come back to the Fiery Path once you have the Strength HM to access TM06 Toxic and the Fire Stone.
  • Torkoal can be a great Fire-type Pokémon if you need one, especially for its defensive capabilities.
  • Machop is a solid choice if you're looking for a strong Fighting-type Pokémon early on.
