Master the trainers of Route 103 in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire! Learn strategies to defeat Swimmer Isabelle, Fisherman Andrew, and more. Get ready for battle!

Alright, so you've got the Surf HM and you're ready to explore Route 103 a bit more. This route has a bunch of trainers, and they're a great way to level up your Pokémon before heading further into the game. Let's break them down!

Walkthrough
  1. 1
First things first, use Surf to head into the water. You'll find two trainers here, Swimmer Isabelle and Swimmer Pete. They'll battle you as a pair, so be ready for a double battle!
  2. 2
Swimmer Isabelle: Marill, Level 15 (Water)
  3. 3
Swimmer Pete: Tentacool, Level 15 (Water/Poison)
  4. 4
After that water battle, swim to the right side of the water to get to the other side of the route. Here, you'll find more trainers waiting for you as you move from left to right.
  5. 5
First up is Fisherman Andrew. He's got a few Pokémon, so be prepared for a bit of a fight.
  6. 6
Fisherman Andrew: Magikarp, Level 5 (Water), Magikarp, Level 15 (Water), Tentacool, Level 10 (Water/Poison)
  7. 7
    Reward: $600
  8. 8
Next, you'll encounter Twins Amy and Liv. These are Match Call trainers, so if you have a good phone, you might be able to battle them again later!
  9. 9
Twins Amy and Liv: Plusle, Level 15 (Electric), Minun, Level 15 (Electric)
  10. 10
    Reward: $360
  11. 11
Following them is Pokémon Ranger Miguel, another Match Call trainer.
  12. 12
Pokémon Ranger Miguel: Skitty, Level 15 (Normal)
  13. 13
    Reward: $1200
  14. 14
After Miguel, you'll face Aroma Lady Daisy. She's got a couple of Grass-type Pokémon.
  15. 15
Aroma Lady Daisy: Shroomish, Level 14 (Grass), Roselia, Level 14 (Grass/Poison)
  16. 16
    Reward: $560
  17. 17
Now, there are two more trainers, but you'll need the Cut HM to reach them. If you have it, use Cut on the bush nearby.
  18. 18
Once you've cut the bush, you can walk between Black Belt Rhett and Guitarist Marcos for another double battle.
  19. 19
Black Belt Rhett: Makuhita, Level 15 (Fighting)
  20. 20
Guitarist Marcos: Voltorb, Level 15 (Electric)
  21. 21
    Reward: $960 combined
  22. 22
After you've dealt with all these trainers, head left to pick up a PP Up. Then, make your way east and head north to Route 110, and then continue north into Mauville City.
Tips
  • Double battles can be tricky, but they're also a great way to rack up experience. Try to use moves that hit multiple opponents if you have them!
  • Fisherman Andrew's Magikarp at Level 5 is a pushover, but the Level 15 ones and the Tentacool can hit back. Make sure your Pokémon are strong enough.
  • The twins' Plusle and Minun are both Electric-types. If you have a Ground-type Pokémon, they'll be super effective!
  • Aroma Lady Daisy's Grass-types are weak to Fire, Flying, and Ice-type moves.
  • Black Belt Rhett's Makuhita is a Fighting-type, so Flying, Psychic, and Fairy moves will do extra damage. Guitarist Marcos's Voltorb is Electric, making it weak to Ground-type attacks.
