Guide to reaching Slateport City in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. Includes trainer battles on Route 109, the Contest Hall, and obtaining Soda Pops.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
After exiting the cave, return to Dewford Town.
  2. 2
Go to the dock and speak with Mr. Briney to request a boat ride to Slateport City. You must have delivered the letter to Steven Stone first.
  3. 3
Mr. Briney will take you across the sea, where you'll encounter trainers. Note that these trainers may be stronger than your current Pokémon, and you will need the HM Surf to reach some of them.
  4. 4
You will land on the beach of Route 109 instead of a dock.
  5. 5
Upon entering Route 109, you will find two Tubers who will give you the Soft Sand item. This item boosts Ground-type moves by 10% when held by a Pokémon.
  6. 6
There are no wild Pokémon on this route, but be aware of trainers hiding under umbrellas.
  7. 7
    Battle the following trainers:
    • Sailor Huey: Wingull (Level 12), Machop (Level 12) - $384
  8. 8
    Sailor Edmond: Wingull (Level 13) - $416
  9. 9
    Tuber Hailey: Marill (Level 13) - $52
  10. 10
    Tuber Rickey: Zigzagoon (Level 13) - $52
  11. 11
Continue north to find the entrance to Slateport City. Before entering, locate a house on the beach.
  12. 12
Inside the house, you will find three trainers. If you defeat all three, the owner, Mr. Sea, will reward you with 6 Soda Pops, which restore 60 HP each.
  13. 13
Battle the following trainers in the house:
    • Tuber Simon: Azurill (Level 12), Marill (Level 12) - $46
  14. 14
    Beauty Johanna: Goldeen (Level 13) - $1040
  15. 15
Sailor Dwayne: Wingull (Level 11), Machop (Level 11), Tentacool (Level 11)
  16. 16
After defeating all three trainers, speak to Mr. Sea to receive your 6 Soda Pops.
  17. 17
Leave the house and continue north to Slateport City.
Tips
  • The trainers on Route 109 and in the house may be tougher than previous opponents. Ensure your Pokémon are adequately leveled and healed.
  • Soda Pops are valuable healing items at this stage of the game. Use them strategically when needed.
