Learn how to recruit allies in Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. This guide covers capturing, rescuing, and special conditions for recruiting unique characters and soldiers.

To complete Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, you need allies. Enemy soldiers are present in every mission, and dead soldiers cannot be recruited. The process involves knocking out enemies, dragging them to a truck or cardboard box before they wake up, and then managing them in the prison on the Squad Management screen. After a few in-game days, they will join your unit. Having a soldier with the Politician career in your squad speeds up this process.

Special Conditions for Recruitment:

  • Rescuing a captured soldier results in immediate recruitment.
  • Unique Characters can be recruited, but specific conditions must be met.

The following characters join immediately after capture or rescue:

  • Jonathan
  • Para-Medic
  • Python
  • Raikov
  • Sigint
  • Sokolov
  • Eva
  • Venus
  • Teliko
  • Gene (EU version only)
  • Any soldier rescued during a mission
  • Any soldier recruited via AP Scan
  • Any soldier recruited via password (GAKO soldier and Zero are recommended if you don't own the Metal Gear Solid Digital Graphic Novel; most other soldiers are obtainable without passwords)
  • Any soldier who joins voluntarily through Cyber-Survival

Cyber-Survival Mode:

Utilize your allies in Cyber-Survival mode via a WLAN connection. Different rules apply here. After reviewing the rules, assign equipment and send your unit online. Check their status after 12 hours. If you lose, save the battle report to identify weaknesses. You may recruit enemy soldiers, and some may even join voluntarily, offering gifts like the Stealth Camouflage. However, be cautious, as losing can lead to your soldiers being captured. Avoid sending your favorite soldiers into this mode.
