Master Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops with tips on beating Cunningham, using the WAIT function, and increasing soldier stats.
Cunningham Strategy:
- Equip an S rank heavy weapons soldier.
- Use the M63 weapon and hold L to auto-aim at Cunningham.
- Continue firing and reload when necessary. The M63 will disable his vehicle in approximately 5 seconds.
- Once the vehicle smokes and is disabled, move closer and continue auto-aiming with the M63. This can deplete about 1/4 of his health. It is possible to defeat him without taking damage.
- You can defeat Cunningham on Extreme difficulty without using a healthpack.
Waking Up Enemies:
When an enemy is knocked out or sleeping, press circle three times to kick them until they awaken. If they are knocked out, the stars above them will disappear one by one. If they are asleep, the 'Z's will disappear one by one.
The WAIT Function:
The WAIT function is accessible on the World Map by pressing X, then selecting the last icon labeled 'WAIT' with the number 3. Pressing WAIT advances the in-game time by 12 hours (a full day and a half). To restore the WAIT function, enter any area and exit it again; it will reset to 3 uses.
What the WAIT function does:
- Recovers stamina and HP (Health Points) of soldiers.
- Speeds up report generation when using spies in different areas.
- Advances the day by 12 hours per use.
- Allows spies to procure more ammunition.
- Expedites the acquisition of medical supplies from your medical unit.
- Increases the speed at which your technical unit produces items as their level rises.
How to Get More Stamina and HP:
To increase Stamina and HP, deploy your characters in STORY MISSIONS only. For each story mission they are deployed in, they gain +1 Stamina and HP. They do not need to be actively controlled; they only need to be part of your main Sneaking Unit. For example, if you have four soldiers in your unit and only play as Snake during a story mission, the other three will also receive the Stamina and HP bonus. Story missions are those directly related to the main plot. A soldier can gain a maximum of 60 HP and 100 Stamina beyond their starting values. For instance, a soldier starting with 100 HP and 200 Stamina can reach a maximum of 160 HP and 300 Stamina.
The Auto Headshot (a shot that lands on the enemy's head, usually an instant kill):
Equip a gun. When close enough to an enemy to auto-aim (hold L), switch to first-person view by holding R. Aim slightly upwards; your reticle should align with the enemy's head. Then, fire. This technique requires practice to master. You can practice by entering alert mode in any area and targeting enemies.
AP Scan:
AP Scanning is a feature that simplifies recruiting soldiers. Access it from the World Map by pressing X, selecting the 'Recruit' icon, and then choosing 'AP Scan'. In AP Scan mode, a beeping sound and a bar will appear. Your objective is to raise the bar to the white line at the end by moving your PSP to pick up a Wi-Fi signal or wireless internet hotspot. Once the bar appears, repeatedly tap X until it reaches the white line and displays 'Recruit'. If the bar stops before reaching the line, reposition your PSP or move around again. AP Scanning allows you to recruit soldiers with S ranks in Medical and Technical fields, as well as Ocelot, KGB, and GRU soldiers.
