- 1Early Game Strategy: Avoid war until at least the Classical era, preferably Medieval. Focus on securing early expansion and establishing trade routes.
- 2Culture Selection: Prioritize Agrarian and Builder cultures to establish a strong economic and infrastructure base. These cultures help in scaling into the late game when AI bonuses become less impactful.
- 3Expansion: Build wide rather than tall. This means establishing multiple cities to maximize resource acquisition and territorial control, which is crucial for offsetting AI bonuses.
- 4Trade: Actively seek trade for luxury resources. These are essential for managing stability, which is a key challenge due to AI bonuses.
- 5Fame Accumulation: The primary goal is to acquire as many stars/Fame as possible. Do not rush to transcend cultures if it means missing out on era stars, as this can lead to losing the game despite a strong in-game position.
- 6End Game Trigger: Once sufficient Fame is accumulated, trigger the end game condition. The science ending (researching all technologies) is typically the most consistent and fastest. Alternatively, if mid-game conquest was successful, eliminating or vassalizing all other cultures can also be a viable strategy, especially with fewer AI opponents.
- AI Bonuses: Understand that on Humankind difficulty, the AI receives +3 Food/Industry/Money/Science per specialist and +60 Stability, along with +2 Combat Strength for all units. These flat bonuses are more impactful early on and scale less favorably for the AI later in the game.
- Combat Strength: The AI's +2 Combat Strength bonus is significant in the early eras and makes direct combat very difficult. Avoid engaging in warfare until you have better units or technologies to compensate.
- Stability Management: Trading for luxury resources is the primary method to counteract the AI's stability advantage.
- Map Settings: For this strategy, optimal map settings include:
- World Size: Huge (allows for more expansion and easier spawning of minor cultures).
- World Shape: Large Pangea (facilitates scouting and trade partner discovery).
- Land Percentage: 70-80% (provides enough land for expansion while retaining sufficient ocean for naval trade routes).
- Climate: New World (ensures a variety of starting conditions and potential for trade).
