Learn how to successfully plan and execute heists in Grand Theft Auto VI. This guide covers scoping out locations, choosing your crew, and the setup missions for the Vangelico Jewelry Store robbery.

Walkthrough:

When you get to Didier Sachs then steal the Police Car. Even though you have a 3-Star Wanted Rating the Cops are fairly easy to lose. Try to hide behind one of the large buildings until the Rating disappears. Then take her home to successfully complete the mission (and get a Gold Medal).

Before moving on you need to go into your closet and change into one of your suits which is required for the next task at hand.

GHF26. Setting Up Heists

At several points during the game you will perform various heists and raids. Right now you will begin work on robbing the Vangelico Jewelry Store. There are several things that need to be done in order to perform a successful heist:

Scoping Things Out

The first thing you need to do is to go to the location and perform several tasks to gain intelligence about the place.

The Planning Board

Near the tail end of the intelligence mission you will be presented with a planning board where you can go over what you know about the place that you are going to raid.

The Approach

You will be presented with two options for raiding: The Loud and Obvious Approach and The Smart and Stealthy Approach. There are some additional setup missions that need to be performed and which ones you do will be dependent on which approach you wish to take.

The Crew

Here you need to choose three additional people to help in your raid - a driver, a gunman, and a hacker. Each has various levels of skill. The better they are, the more smoothly the robbery will go. However, they work for a percentage of the take. Therefore, the more skilled they are, the more expensive they are and the less you can get for yourself.

If you're thinking that going cheap on all members of the Crew will result in a huge amount for yourself that's probably not a good idea. This type of Crew will move slower which may result in less being stolen and you may also risk the chance of one of them crashing and losing part of the take during the getaway which reduces your cut even further and may even result in a complete mission failure.

The best way to ensure success while getting a good payday is to do what I call a Balanced Crew - one high-level, one mid-level, and one low-level member.

At the end of the heist your Crew members will get a significant increase in overall skill. If you keep the same Crew throughout the entire game you can create a really nice skilled Crew by the time you get to the heavy stuff. It should also be pointed out that their cut won't change even if they become real skilled near the end of the game.

In addition, you can get additional Crew members to choose from by doing certain Random Event Encounters.

The Driver

A good driver will research the route and determine what is the best vehicles for the getaway as well as make sure that everybody follows him and takes the proper route. He will also be helpful in robbing whatever place you raid. Right now you have two drivers to choose from: Eddie Toh and Karim Denz. You can get another driver to choose from later in the game.

The Gunman

A good gunman will be very helpful in necessary crowd control and won't make bad decisions. He will also be quick in grabbing the merchandise which will improve the overall take. And he will be less likely to crash during the getaway.

If you've done the Random Event Encounter "Getaway Driver" you should have three gunmen to choose from: Gustavo Mota, Packie McReary, and Norm Richards.

The Hacker

A good hacker will suppress the alarm system as long as possible thus allowing you maximum time to grab all that you need and want. Right now you should have three hackers to choose from: Paige Harris, Christian Feltz, and Rickie Lukens.

The Setup

After choosing the Crew then you go and acquire what you need based on what approach you go with. These missions will appear quickly one after the other upon completion.

The Heist

After completion of the last setup mission then you begin the robbery itself. How well it goes will be dependent on your Crew members.

Mission Replays

If you choose to do a Mission Replay of the Heist to get Requirements you will be sent back to the Planning Board where you can choose a new Approach and Crew. However, you can't do skill increases for Crew members on Replays. Any Skill increases for a Crew member will be removed and they will return to their original skill level. This can be annoying at later stages of the game.

It is also important to point out that if you choose a different Approach you cannot do any setup missions related to it - you will go straight to the heist with all the necessary equipment you need.

If you need to do a Mission Replay on a setup mission that is before the Heis
