Learn how to defeat the Executioner's Chariot in Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin, including strategies for both phases and loot.
Walkthrough
- 1Enter the fog door to begin Phase 1. Your objective is to run around the circular arena and pull a lever to close a gate.
- 2Take cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects) (use environmental objects for protection) in side slits in the walls to avoid the charging chariot.
- 3Skeletons will continuously respawn (be brought back to life at a checkpoint after death) (reappear after dying) until the two necromancers are killed.
- 4Locate and defeat both necromancers, who are hidden in safe spots. Once they are dead, the chariot will eliminate the skeletons.
- 5Reach the end of the circle and pull the lever.
- 6Wait for the chariot to approach again to initiate Phase 2.
- 7Phase 2 begins when the chariot crashes into the gate and is destroyed, freeing the horse.
- 8Fight the horse, which has an unblockable head charge, a hind leg kick, and an unblockable black fog breath attack.
- 9Circle around the horse to avoid its attacks. Bait the hind leg kick, then quickly attack once or twice.
- 10Alternatively, bait the front stomp or dodge the breath attack to get a few hits in.
- 11Avoid staying in front of the horse for too long, as it will perform a downward bash.
- 12Do not linger behind the horse, as it will kick with its hind legs.
- 13If you are at a medium distance, the horse will spew a black fog.
Tips
- Phase 1: Prioritize killing the two necromancers quickly to stop skeleton respawns. Use a high stability shield if direct running between necromancers is difficult.
- If you have the spell "Yearn", cast it upon entering the arena. Skeletons will ignore you and be killed by the chariot. Kill the first necromancer, then re-cast "Yearn" near the first skeleton and proceed to the second necromancer. After both are dead, pull the lever.
- Phase 2: The horse falling over at the start of phase two is an ideal moment for spells with long cast times.
- The horse's attacks can deal damage through your shield.
- The charge attack is difficult to dodge and deals significant damage.
- Casting "Yearn" in Phase 1 can make the fight significantly easier.
- Four Fading Souls from corpses along the path.
- A Soul of a Brave Warrior from a corpse hanging on the edge of the hole past the gate.
- After defeating the boss, loot the corpse in the room.
- Light the Bonfire.
- If you have a Token of Spite, you can join the Covenant of Blood. A Token of Spite can be found in a chest in the Grave of Saints if playing offline, or by invading and killing another player.
- Joining the Covenant of Blood grants a Crest of Blood.
- The NPC (non-player character — anyone the game controls, not you) will also sell: a Great Scythe, Priest Chime, Bone King armor set, Delicate String, Hexing Urn, Silver Talisman, and pyromancies such as Firestorm, Great Combustion, and Fire Whip.
After this area, proceed to Harvest Valley. Refer to the Huntsman Copse section for directions.
