Explore the Mechanic class in Battlefield Hardline, focusing on submachineguns (SMGs) and their damage profiles, including the K10, UMP45, MPX, MP5K, FMG9, M5 Navy, Mx4, Scorpion, and P90.

The Mechanic class in Battlefield Hardline is the equivalent of the Engineer class from previous titles. This class primarily uses submachineguns (SMGs), which are automatic weapons firing pistol-caliber rounds, ideal for close-quarters engagements due to their shorter length, high rate of fire, and reduced weight.

While the Mechanic is now more of a "vehicles and gadgetry class," the logic of vehicle crews favoring shorter guns still applies. Players can also equip any of the generic weapons. Initially, the MP5K primary and the .38 Snub sidearm are available. The Mechanic Shortcut pack on the PSN store unlocks all base game guns and gadgets for the class, except for the FMG9, which is unlocked by completing the Syndicate assignment.

Submachineguns (SMGs) are distinct from Personal Defence Weapons (PDWs). PDWs are designed to be compact automatic weapons capable of defeating modern body armor, often using custom cartridges that offer superior ballistic performance compared to standard pistol ammunition used by SMGs. In Battlefield Hardline, SMGs and PDWs are properly categorized, though the P90 (PDW) might seem out of place among SMGs.

The game features several submachineguns with varying damage profiles:

Patches and Updates:

  • In February 2015, during the beta, stat changes were applied to PC. The max damage for standard 9mm SMGs (Uzi, M/45, MP5K) was reduced from 34 to 33 but later reverted to restore the three-hit kill potential.
  • The April 28 patch nerfed the K10: maximum damage reduced from 34 to 33, drop-off end distance reduced from 30 to 25 meters, and minimum damage cut from 12 to 8. The damage drop-off start was further reduced from 10 to 5 meters in the June 16 patch.
  • The maximum damage for the FMG was buffed in the April 28 patch.
