Your Ark 2 walkthrough for Part 20: Chimera Research Lab. Find the Wind Staff, Smart Capture, Raila's Mirror, and Nol's Crystal. Defeat the Holn Lab Chief!

Alright, we're heading into the Chimera Research Lab now – it's a bit of a maze with some tricky switches, but don't worry, I'll guide you through it. We're looking for some really useful gear here, including a couple of key items for Lieza.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
You'll start in the first area, and you'll notice two dead-end paths. Both have switches. Take the left one first. This opens the door to the Northwest. Head there for your first battle (#1). You'll be fighting a Red Skeleton and a Great Dragon. The reward is the [Wind Staff]. It's not part of any combo, but it's a pretty solid weapon for Gogen, so grab it!
  2. 2
After getting the staff, go back to the main hallway and take the Northeast entrance. This leads to another battle (#2), this time against a Death Hound and a Boogie Man.
  3. 3
Head upstairs and take the Northwest door. Approach the lone switch in this room. Activating it will trigger an ambush – enemies will appear behind you! This is battle #3, featuring a Death Hound and two Red Skeletons.
  4. 4
Once that fight is done, backtrack to the previous room and take the Northeast exit. This leads to battle #4, where you'll face a Death Hound and two Great Dragons.
  5. 5
The hallway connected to this room has three sets of switches. These are important because they control which room you can enter through the eastern door. The trick is that all switches must be flipped to the same side (all left or all right) to open the way. The default is the middle. First, flip them all to the right. This will open the way to a chest containing the [Smart Capture] whip. This is a great item, by the way – Lv 8/14 and ATK 13/18.
  6. 6
After grabbing the whip, change all the switches to the left. This opens up a room that acts as a HP recovery barracks – a nice little breather!
  7. 7
Once you're healed up, set all the switches back to the middle (the default) and continue onward.
  8. 8
Upstairs again, you'll face your next battle (#5) with six enemies: two Death Hounds, two Great Dragons, and two Boogie Men.
  9. 9
Beyond this fight is another hallway with three sets of switches. These are a bit different from the last set, as they require a specific combination to open passages. You need to input the following sequence to control the switches: UUDUDUUUD (Up, Up, Down, Down, Up, Down, Up, Up, Up, Down).
  10. 10
This sequence will open up three passages. You want the rightmost room. This passage leads to the boss area. The leftmost room contains the [Raila's Mirror] accessory, which is Lieza-only. It gives +11 DEF and protects against sleep, confusion, poison, and darkness – super recommended if you're using Lieza! The middle room is a trap, so skip it.
  11. 11
You're now at the boss area. You'll face the Lv 36 Holn Lab Chief. The other enemies are two Lv 34 Stone Jackals.
  12. 12
Boss Strategy: As soon as the fight starts, have everyone use Strike Power. Then, focus on using Explosion and Cold Breath for maximum damage. Make sure Kelack is on healing duty every single turn. The Chief won't stand a chance!
  13. 13
After defeating the boss, Lieza's grandfather will give her [Nol's Crystal]. This is a crucial item that unlocks Mother Claire and allows Lieza to upgrade captured beasts (Ravages) using experience from defeated monsters.
Tips
  • Death Hounds can drop IceSnake Whips. These sell for a hefty 6500g each and are really useful, so try to snag a couple if you can!
  • Remember that Raila's Mirror is female-only, so only Lieza can equip it. It's a fantastic defensive accessory for her.
