Master Battle Trophies in Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. Learn about BT rewards, difficulty levels, and game-breaking bugs to enhance your gameplay experience.

Battle Trophies (BTs)

Battle Trophies are achievements earned by completing various tasks and milestones during battles. There are 300 BTs in total, with rewards including:

  • 45 BTs (15%): Second set of costumes.
  • 75 BTs (25%): Universe difficulty level.
  • 120 BTs (40%): Third set of costumes.
  • 165 BTs (55%): Music Mode.
  • 195 BTs (65%): 4th Dimension (4D) difficulty level.
  • 240 BTs (80%): Fourth set of costumes.
  • 285 BTs (95%): Full Active Mode (FAM).

The Battle Trophy data consumes 1167 kb, likely due to screenshots taken upon earning each trophy.

BT Acquisition Notes:

  • To reliably maintain bonus experience or Fol, keep the controlled character away from the action. This is easier early game but difficult later on.
  • Using Lucky Star (late game) or bringing in a low-level character can help if the increment rate starts at 0%.
  • Charge and Aerial attacks count as normal attacks, granting Triple XP or Double Fol respectively.
  • Boss-related BTs (e.g., 'Defeat boss in under x minutes' or 'Defeat boss without taking damage') have specific conditions. The time limit counts battle menu time, while the no-damage trophy only requires the controlled character to avoid damage. Switching to a dead character voids the no-damage trophy.
  • For bosses with accompanying normal enemies, defeating the boss is sufficient for their BTs. Manual targeting might be useful for time-limit BTs.
  • The most time-consuming BT is reaching 50,000 battles, requiring approximately 10 playthroughs if aiming for 5,000 battles per playthrough.
  • BTs cannot be obtained on Easy (Earth) difficulty, nor can BT stats be transferred from an Easy save.
  • Only 80% of BTs are needed for all associated trophies, which is achievable with diligence.

Difficulty Levels

The game defaults to Easy (Earth) and Normal (Galaxy). Higher difficulties are unlocked by collecting BTs:

  • Universe: Manageable difficulty.
  • 4D: Extremely difficult, characterized by significantly increased enemy speed (movement and attacks).

Difficulty multipliers:

DifficultyHPMPATPDFP
Earth0.70.70.750.8
Galaxy1.01.01.01.0
Universe1.51.51.41.4
4D~1.8~1.8~1.851.7

Bugs

The game has occasional loading issues that can rarely cause crashes, possibly exacerbated by console age.

Specific Bugs:

  • Cancel window bug: (Covered elsewhere).
  • Attribute change bug: Attributes of an active attack can transfer to subsequent attacks. For example, Fuujin can gain IHPD or Critical Hit effects if used before a normal attack with those properties. Activation rolls for skills like Critical Hit are made once and apply to all hits of the normal attack.
  • Cancel multiplier reset: Landing a normal hit after canceling resets the cancel multiplier. This affects characters with ranged normal attacks (Maria, Sophia, Adray) and can be triggered easily with Sophia or Adray when starting LR chains. Delaying the cancel can avoid this.
  • Charge/Aerial bug: If Charge and Aerial are set to both slots, their HP and Fury costs can transfer if a move is queued before executing the attack. This can be used to extend chains while consuming less HP.
