Shadow Pokemon in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness possess Regular Moves (RM) that typically require breeding or Technical Machines (TMs) to learn. For instance, Snorlax can have Curse (an Egg Move), and Zapdos can have Thunderbolt (a TM).

When a Shadow Pokemon is Purified, its Shadow Moves (SwM) are replaced with Special Moves (SlM). These Special Moves are unique and cannot be taught to any other Pokemon. An example is Farfetch'd, which learns Baton Pass as a Special Move, a nod to its appearance in Pokemon Stadium 2.
