Learn how to increase Affection, Fullness, and Enjoyment in Pokémon Sun and Moon's Refresh feature. Discover battle benefits and how to earn the Best Friends Ribbon.

Pokemon Refresh Stats:

There are three key stats for Pokémon Refresh:

  • Affection: The most important stat. It generally only increases and maxing it out provides all possible benefits.
  • Fullness: Determines if your Pokémon will still eat Poke Beans. Max fullness means they will reject beans. Feeding Poke Beans increases Affection.
  • Enjoyment: Measures how much your Pokémon has been played with. Petting increases Affection, but after a point, it will increase Enjoyment instead.

When your Pokémon starts showing musical notes, it's very happy, but its Affection is no longer increasing.

Increasing Affection:

Small hearts appearing from your Pokémon indicate increases in Affection. When your Pokémon makes its happy gesture twice and sparkles, its Affection level has increased. The following table shows the heart requirements for each Affection level:

Affection LevelSmall Hearts Required
One Heart1
Two Hearts50
Three Hearts100
Four Hearts150
Five Hearts250

Once a Pokémon reaches max Affection (5 hearts), you can visit an NPC in Malie City’s Community Center to receive the Best Friends Ribbon.

Using Pokemon Refresh for Care:

After battles, a hairbrush icon may appear on the touch screen with a prompt to press Y. This indicates your Pokémon has a status condition (Poison, Paralysis, Burn, Sleep, or Freeze) or is dirty. Using the care kit menu allows you to cure these issues and clean your Pokémon, rewarding you with a healed Pokémon and Affection points.

Here are the care items and their effects:
