Pokemon Bank

Pokemon Bank is the primary method for connecting pokemon sun moon with other Pokemon games. A free update is scheduled for January 2017 that will allow Pokemon to be transferred between Pokemon Sun and Moon and Pokemon Bank.

Pokemon Sun and Moon Special Demo

If you have the Pokemon Sun and Moon Special Demo on the same 3DS or 2DS system as your main game, you can transfer items and the special Ash-Greninja. Ash-Greninja cannot be obtained elsewhere, and the items are a helpful bonus.

Walkthrough: Transferring Pokemon

1. 6th Generation (Pokemon X, Y, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire): Pokemon from these games can be sent directly to Pokemon Bank and then transferred to Pokemon Sun and Moon after the January 2017 update. Ensure Pokemon Bank is on the same 3DS or 2DS as your 6th generation game.
2. 1st Generation (Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow - 3DS Virtual Console): After the January 2017 update, use the Poke Transporter app to transfer Pokemon from the 3DS Virtual Console versions of Red, Blue, or Yellow to Pokemon Bank. Pokemon Bank, Poke Transporter, and the 1st generation game must all be on the same 3DS or 2DS.
3. 5th Generation (Pokemon Black, White, Black 2, White 2): Pokemon caught in these Unova region games can be transferred using Poke Transporter, similar to the 1st generation games. Pokemon Bank, Poke Transporter, and the 5th generation game must all be on the same 3DS or 2DS.
4. 4th Generation (Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, Soul Silver): This requires two systems. Use the in-game PokeTransfer feature on a 5th generation game to transfer wirelessly from a 4th generation game. Both a 4th generation game and a 5th generation game are needed on separate systems.
5. 3rd Generation (Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, LeafGreen): You will need a Nintendo DS. Insert a 3rd generation game into the Game Boy Advance slot and a 4th generation game into the DS card slot. Use the in-game Pal Park feature within the 4th generation game to transfer Pokemon.
