Learn about the Battle Frontier in Pokémon Platinum: its facilities, BP currency, item shops, and the exciting scratch-card mini-game. Master the challenges and earn rewards!

The Battle Frontier, first introduced in Pokémon Crystal and expanded upon since Pokémon Emerald, is a special area in Sinnoh featuring 5 distinct battle facilities: the Battle Tower, Battle Factory, Battle Arcade, Battle Castle, and Battle Hall. Each facility challenges trainers to a series of 7 consecutive battles. Successfully completing these battles earns players a 'Streak' and Battle Points (BP), a special currency. The more Streaks a player accumulates, the more BP they receive. Losing a battle resets the Streak to zero.

The Frontier also introduces Frontier Brains, the leaders of each facility, who appear after a certain number of Streaks are achieved. Defeating a Frontier Brain rewards the player with 20 BP and a unique print specific to that facility. While there are two prints available per Battle Tower, collecting them all does not offer any special in-game benefits.

Battle Points (BP) are earned by defeating trainers in the 7-battle challenges or by besting Frontier Brains. This BP can be exchanged at various shops within the Battle Frontier for exclusive items and Technical Machines (TMs) that are otherwise difficult to obtain. The shops offer a wide array of items, including stat-boosting vitamins like HP Up, Carbos, Calcium, Iron, Protein, and Zinc (1 BP each), and stat-altering items such as Power Belt, Power Bracer, Power Band, Power Lens, Power Weight, Power Anklet, Flame Orb, and Toxic Orb (16 BP each). More advanced items like Power Herb and White Herb cost 32 BP. High-tier items including Choice Band, Focus Band, Brightpowder, Scope Lens, Focus Sash, Muscle Band, Choice Scarf, Razor Fang, Razor Claw, and Rare Candy are available for 48 BP.

TMs are also available for purchase. Trainers can acquire TM 73 Thunder Wave, TM 61 Will-O-Wisp, TM 45 Attract, and TM 06 Toxic for 32 BP each. TM 40 Aerial Ace and TM 31 Brick Break cost 40 BP. For 48 BP, players can obtain TM 04 Calm Mind and TM 08 Bulk Up. More powerful TMs like TM 30 Shadow Ball, TM 81 X-Scissor, and TM 53 Energy Ball are priced at 64 BP. The most potent TMs, including TM 59 Dragon Pulse, TM 36 Sludge Bomb, TM 26 Earthquake, and TM 71 Stone Edge, require 80 BP.

Additionally, the Battle Frontier offers a scratch-off card mini-game for 1 BP, providing 3 cards from a selection of four: Chingling, Cherubi, Mantyke, and Budew. Each card is associated with a random prize. Players scratch off 3 out of 9 squares on the touch screen. Matching three of the same Pokémon, or two of the same Pokémon with a Ditto (which acts as a wild card), wins the corresponding prize. Prizes include a Nugget or one of 23 different Berries (3 of each type if won). If a scratched square reveals a different Pokémon than the previous one, the ticket is a losing one.
