Eterna City

Upon arriving in Eterna City, head to the Pokémon Center to heal your party. Next, visit the house adjacent to the Pokémon Center and speak with the old man to receive the Explorer Kit. This item is required before you can leave the town. With the Explorer Kit, you can now access the Underground and dig for items; some items will only appear after obtaining the National Pokédex.

As you head north, your rival will appear and lead you to the Pokémon Statue in the northern part of town. Here, you will encounter the blue-haired man again. When you attempt to return west, Cynthia will appear. After a brief conversation, she will give you HM 01 (Cut). While you cannot use Cut outside of battle until you obtain the Eterna Gym's badge, the badge will enable its use.

You can visit the Herb Shop for more affordable medicine, but be aware that using these items will decrease your Pokémon's friendship.

In the Condominium next to the Poké Mart, you can trade a Buizel for a Chatot. Chatot is a Flying/Normal type that is not commonly encountered until later in the game and is not particularly strong in battle.

Eterna Gym

The Eterna Gym features a unique mechanic where a giant flower-like clock in the center rotates after each trainer battle, opening new sections of the gym. After defeating all three trainers, the dial will lead to the Gym Leader, Gardenia.
