Learn how to battle and trade with friends in Pokémon Platinum using the Pal Pad and the Global Trade System (GTS) website. Master online communication.
Walkthrough: Setting Up Online Communication
- First, ensure your wireless connection is set up by following the "Set up a connection" guide.
- Obtain at least one badge.
- Visit the downstairs area of any Pokémon Center (stairs are on the right inside).
- Speak to the lady at the front counter. She will initiate a connection test.
- Confirm the connection, and you will receive the Pal Pad, a crucial item for communication.
- To trade or battle with others in the Wi-Fi area, you need their name and Friend Code.
- Access the Pal Pad from your Key Items. It offers three options: Check Friend Roster, Register Friend's Code, and Your Name Code.
- To register a friend, select "Register Friend's Code," enter their Friend Code and Trainer Name.
- Your own code and name are displayed under "*Your Name* Code." Write these down and share them with friends.
Online Features:
- Once a friend is online, you can choose from: Single Battle, Double Battle, Trade, or See Records.
- Battles have options for Lv. 50, Lv. 100, or Free Battle.
- Trading functions similarly to previous generations.
- You can view opponents' records, such as battle and trade history.
- The microphone can be used for voice chat during trades, but not during battles. Using headphones is recommended for clearer communication.
The GTS Website
The GTS website, launched September 14th, 2007, allows you to track Pokémon available on the Global Trade System. It updates daily at 1:30 GMT and requires Flash to view. You can select your preferred language (English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Japanese).
GTS Website Features:
- The Daily Trades: Watch a movie showing recent trades, including Pokémon, movesets, levels, locations, and distances. Information for non-native language Pokémon will be displayed in their native language.
- Trade Headlines: View the top 10 traded Pokémon, the number of Pokémon deposited, and top trading countries.
- Pokemon Search: Search for specific Pokémon. You can view their height, weight, international names, and details of deposited Pokémon (like Feebass), including level, country, and upload time. Some event or unrevealed Pokémon (Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus) cannot be viewed.
- Ranking Data: See the top 50 most traded, most wanted, and most deposited Pokémon, along with ranking changes.
- Bookmark: Save specific Pokémon or countries for later viewing.
