Learn how to take down Commander Mars and Commander Jupiter in the first area of Pokémon Platinum. Get tips on their Pokémon and strategies to win!

Alright, so you've just stepped into the first real challenge area of Pokémon Platinum, and guess who's waiting for you? It's Mars, Saturn, Charon, and a bunch of Team Galactic grunts. Don't worry, we'll get through this!

Boss Fight: Commander Mars

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • Bronzong lv 58 (Psychic/Steel) — Weak to Fire. Watch out, it has Levitate so Ground attacks won't work!
  • Golbat lv 58 (Flying/Poison) — Weak to Electric, Rock, Ice.
  • Purugly lv 60 (Normal) — Weak to Fighting. Be careful if using Giratina.

Strategy:

  • For Bronzong, definitely bring a Fire-type like Magmortar, Flareon, or Infernape.
  • Golbat is a classic; Electric or Rock-type moves will do the trick. Ice Beam is also a great option.
  • Purugly is her strongest. Fighting-types are good here, but just be mindful of its moves like Shadow Claw and Hypnosis.

Boss Fight: Commander Jupiter

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • Bronzong lv 58 (Steel/Psychic) — Weak to Fire. Levitate means no Ground attacks!
  • Golbat lv 58 (Flying/Poison) — Weak to Electric, Rock, Ice.
  • Skuntank lv 60 (Dark/Poison) — Weak to Fighting and Ground.

Strategy:

  • Jupiter's Bronzong and Golbat are the same as Mars's, so use the same tactics.
  • Her Skuntank is weak to Fighting and Ground-type attacks, so bring something that can hit hard with those.

After you defeat both Mars and Jupiter, they'll decide to quit Team Galactic. Charon will then mention his own plans involving Team Galactic and a magma stone, and then he'll take off.

Once the dust settles, head down the steps where the Galactic members were standing. You'll find three boulders blocking your path. Here's the puzzle: push the top and bottom boulders to the right. Then, push the middle boulder upwards. Continue to the right, then go up some stairs. Head left and push that boulder all the way to the left. Keep going up the stairs until you reach another boulder; push it out of the way. Finally, go up the last set of steps to find an entrance. Go on in!
