Get the Explorer Kit: The first thing you need to do is grab the Explorer Kit from him. Honestly, you're forced to do this during the main game anyway, so you probably already have it. Just open your item bag, select the Explorer Kit, and you'll be whisked away to the Underground. You'll meet Roark down there. Once that's done, head back up to the surface and chat with the Underground Man again – he'll give you some traps.

Dig Up Spheres and Fossils: For the second mission, he wants you to dig up some spheres and/or fossils in the Underground. This one's pretty easy to complete without even trying. Just spend some time digging around down there, and you'll likely finish this mission without realizing it. You'll get some small spheres as a reward.

Bury Spheres: This mission is a bit different. He wants you to bury spheres in the Underground so they can grow. If you still have those spheres he gave you, head back into the Underground. Open your inventory, go to the 'Sphere' option, and pick one to bury. Confirm it, and once you return to the Underground Man, he'll give you the Digger Drill, which you'll need to make your secret base. You can use any spheres you have for this.

Create Your Secret Base: Next up, you need to set up your secret base. It's a good idea to place it somewhere you'll be visiting often, maybe near Jubilife City. Head into the Underground, choose a wall you like, and then go to your 'Traps' menu. Select the Digger Drill, and voila – your base is created! Report back to the Underground Man, and he'll hook you up with some furniture for it.

Decorate Your Secret Base: The final mission is to decorate your Secret Base. You might have already done this! Just go to your base, access the PC inside, and move an item from your PC into your base. It doesn't have to be one of the items he gave you. Once you've spruced it up and head back to him, he'll give you a doll.

After you've completed all his missions, have another chat with the Underground Man. He'll teach you how to move those pesky boulders in your base!
