Learn how to catch the elusive Spiritomb in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. This guide details finding the Odd Keystone, the underground quest, and Spiritomb's stats.

Catching Spiritomb is one of the most challenging side-quests in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, requiring interaction with other players. You'll need an Odd Keystone to start.

Finding an Odd Keystone:

• A Blackbelt on Route 208, near the trees and the gate to Hearthome, will give you one.
• There's a rare chance of digging one up in the Underground.
• Using the Dowsing Machine in Twinleaf Town, you can find one near the trees surrounding the pond south of your house.

Starting the Quest:

1. Obtain an Odd Keystone.
2. Take it to the stone tower on Route 209 (it resembles a well).
3. Press 'A' to place the Odd Keystone in the tower.

The Underground Challenge:

• This is the most difficult part: you must talk to 32 different people in the Underground via Wi-Fi. Note that Hikers who give items do not count.
• You will need another player. You can coordinate with a friend or use a second Nintendo DS with a copy of Diamond or Pearl, progressing to at least Eterna City to access the Underground.
• You can talk to the same person multiple times. To efficiently reach 32 interactions, talk to a person, leave the Underground, and re-enter.
• Keep track of your interactions. A pen and paper or the point counter app from the Veilstone Department Store can be used. A reader named César noted that the Underground's menu has a built-in counter.

Catching Spiritomb:

1. Once you have spoken to 32 people, return to the stone tower on Route 209.
2. Save your game before the encounter.
3. Spiritomb will appear at level 25. It is a Ghost/Dark type with no weaknesses.
4. It has a high capture rate, so Ultra Balls should be effective. Bring Pokémon around level 26-30 with non-normal or psychic moves.

Spiritomb's Stats:

• Spiritomb has decent Defense and Special Defense, but low Speed and HP. Its Attack and Special Attack are average.

Alternative Method:

• If you cannot complete the side-quest, you can obtain a Spiritomb later. Cynthia, an Elite Four member, uses one. You can then trade for it on the GTS (Global Trade System). Breeding Spiritomb for trading is also a viable option.
