Fire Dragon Mauna Boss Guide

Learn the best strategy to defeat the Fire Dragon Mauna in Metaphor: ReFantazio. Discover its attacks, weaknesses, and optimal party composition to overcome this early boss.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• Weakness: Ice
• Resistant: Fire (Seeker Archetype is especially weak)

Phases:

1. Phase 1: The dragon uses its basic attacks and Fireball. Focus on dealing ice damage and healing as needed.
2. Phase 2: The dragon continues its assault. The Tail Swipe becomes more dangerous as your party's health dwindles. Continue to exploit the ice weakness.

Strategy:

• Party Composition: Avoid the Seeker Archetype as it's weak to fire. Warrior is decent due to fire resistance, but their damage output is limited. Mage is ideal because they gain access to Blizz (ice damage) at rank 2, which the dragon is highly vulnerable to. Ideally, set all three party members to Mage and grind them to rank 2.
• Combat Flow: Focus on using Blizz every turn. With three Mages, you should get about six actions per turn against the dragon. If your characters happen to miss, you'll get fewer actions.
• Damage Management: The dragon has two actions per turn. Its single-target attacks (Scratch and Fireball) deal around 50-60 damage. Tail Swipe is the most dangerous, hitting an entire row for about 60 damage. If you position Grius and the Main Character in the back row and Strohl in the front, a back-row Tail Swipe will only hit two characters.
• Healing: Use items to heal your party if needed, especially after a Tail Swipe. If you're running low on MP, use items to restore it, though they are rare early on.
• MP Management: If you find yourself running low on MP, don't hesitate to use items to restore it. They might be scarce, but they're crucial for maintaining your Blizz offense.
• Reward: Upon defeating the Fire Dragon Mauna, you'll receive experience, Reeves, and an Amethyst. Additionally, a chest near the dragon contains the powerful 'Dragon's Indignation' greatsword, boasting 111 attack power.
