Where to Start:

You'll need to have reached Chapter 3 before this substory becomes available. Once you've got a good chunk of the map unlocked, head over to the Blacksmith in Rakunai. Just north of there, you'll see a group of six men gathered in a corner. Approach them to kick things off.

Picking the Culprits:

So, you've got a Doshin (that's like a police officer in this era) and five men he's rounded up. Turns out, two of these guys snuck off during community service and ate the Doshin's precious daifuku mochi! The Doshin is too upset to question them himself, so he's enlisted your help. Your job is to chat with each of the five men and figure out who the mochi-munchers are by spotting contradictions in their stories.

Here's what everyone says:

• Higashihara: Claims Kitajima is one of the guilty ones.
• Nishiyama: Says only Higashihara and Minamino had access to the snack room, so one of them must be the culprit.
• Nakagawa: Saw Minamino with mochi filling on his mouth and says he was with Nishiyama the whole time (giving Nishiyama an alibi, assuming Nakagawa isn't lying).
• Minamino: Mentions seeing daifuku powder on Nishiyama's kimono, but he's really nervous and stutters a lot.
• Kitajima: States that either Nakagawa or Minamino is guilty, but not both.

You can try to piece this together yourself, but if you just want the answer to get the rewards, here it is: Higashihara and Minamino are the two culprits. Once you've figured it out, report back to the Doshin and then confront the two guilty parties.
