Complete Substory 52: The Wood Cutter in Like a Dragon: Ishin!

Hey there! Ready to tackle another substory in Like a Dragon: Ishin!? This one, Substory 52, is called 'The Wood Cutter' and it's a pretty straightforward one that pops up in Chapter 2. You'll need to have rescued the Shinto Priest before you can find it.

Where to Start:

You'll find this little side quest in the Fushimi area. Head to the South Yashikimachi, which is in the southwest part of Fushimi. Look for the Hanako shop – you want to be just south of that. You'll spot a man sitting on the ground. Go chat with him, and he'll get you started on the Substory.

How to Complete The Wood Cutter:

So, this old fella has apparently hurt his back while chopping wood and is lamenting that nobody will help him. Naturally, that's where you, our hero Ryoma, come in! He'll basically guilt you into helping him out, which kicks off the Wood Cutting minigame. Your goal for the substory is to chop up 20 pieces of wood. The good news is, you can't really 'fail' this minigame. You just keep going until you hit the target, or even the maximum amount you're allowed to chop in one go (which is 100, by the way).

The minigame itself is super simple: it's basically a one-button press. Ryoma will swing the axe up, and you just need to watch for it to glow. The moment you see that shine, hit the [ / ] button. The trick is, the more consecutive successful hits you land, the faster the chopping gets. It seems to cap out around a 20-hit combo, so if you can get into a good rhythm, you'll be done with those 20 logs in no time!

Warning: If you miss the timing and don't hit the button when the axe glows, you'll get knocked back to the slowest chopping speed. Don't worry though, you can't actually fail the substory. Just keep at it, and you'll eventually get those 20 logs chopped.
