Alright, so you're diving into Another Life and want to know about getting all the furry (and not-so-furry) companions? You can snag a total of six pets for your second home in Ishin! There are three dogs and three cats, and the best part is they're all tied to Substories. You can start working on them as soon as you unlock your second home.

Once you've completed the relevant Substories, you'll unlock bonds for each animal. Maxing out these bonds is usually pretty straightforward, often involving the same tasks as the Substory itself, though sometimes you might need a specific item or have to, say, fight some enemies. It's all pretty manageable, so don't stress about it.

How to Unlock Pets

As mentioned, all the pets are linked to specific Substories. Here's the rundown:

What Can Pets Do?

So, you've gone through the trouble of getting these pets – what do they actually do for you? Well, first off, it's a good idea to build them some beds using Virtue. While it doesn't seem strictly necessary for them to just *be* there, these beds do tie into some of the extra perks your pets offer.

Dogs have a chance to bring back an item for you. Just keep an eye out near their doghouse; if you see your dog, there's a possibility they'll have something for you. Cats, on the other hand, can sometimes influence customers during Orders. When you're handling the orders at your house, a cat might cause a customer to give you an extra item. Neither of these features will flood you with items, but hey, it's a little bonus you wouldn't get otherwise. Don't go out of your way specifically for this, but it's a nice little perk.

You can also interact with your pets directly at your second home. They each have their own entries in the Diligence Records. When you see a speech bubble above one of your pets' heads, you can go up and interact with them. You'll get three dialogue options, and honestly, it doesn't really matter which one you pick. There aren't any hidden affinities or anything to worry about, so just pick one and move on.

Each type of animal (dog and cat) has three Diligence Record entries for these interactions, typically set at 5, 10, and 30 interactions. Since you can interact with each individual cat and dog, it's a good idea to get them all to max out these records, making it easier to complete that section of your Diligence Records.
