Learn how to defeat the Mad King Gangrel in Fire Emblem: Awakening Chapter 11. Get tips on unit positioning, enemy reinforcements, and using thieves.
Alright, let's dive into Chapter 11 of Fire Emblem: Awakening, where we face off against the Mad King Gangrel. This map is pretty big, so keeping an eye on enemy ranges is key. Honestly, sticking together as a big group is probably your best bet here. Just watch out for those enemy reinforcements popping up from the forts all over the place.
You'll get a new ally at the start of this chapter: Olivia, the Dancer. While her dancing skill is usually amazing, for this particular map, I'd actually suggest pairing her up with another unit instead of using her dance. It's because of how those reinforcements work, and keeping your units grouped up will be more beneficial.
There are some chests scattered around the map, and you'll want to snag those items. If you have Anna or any other thief units, now's the time to send them in to grab the Bullion and Goddess Icon – super useful items!
Keep in mind that thieves will try to make a run for the chests, just like usual. You'll have a better chance to intercept them this time around compared to the last chapter.
Depending on how much you've played the side missions, this might be your first time fighting advanced class enemies like Heroes. They hit way harder, so definitely keep them in mind and plan accordingly.
Now, about Gangrel himself: he'll start moving if you get too close to his range. It's a good idea to try and lure him off the fort you might be starting on, but be super careful not to accidentally pull one of your weaker units into his attack range. There's another fort right at the edge of his range, so positioning a unit there might be a smart move.
Enemy reinforcements will show up at the start of their turn, which can be a nasty surprise for any of your units that happen to be nearby. Pay close attention to your unit placement around Turn 3. If you have units standing on the forts, the reinforcements won't appear there. This is a huge advantage, as you can easily take control of the southern forts by Turn 3.
Gangrel himself will start moving on his own from Turn 4, or if you get too close. On Hard Mode, two of the reinforcements that appear from the top-left on Turn 4 drop some pretty valuable items, so if you're playing on that difficulty, it might be worth trying to grab them.
