Complete the Tomb of the Unknown King in final fantasy viii. Learn how to get the student ID and find the Float spell.

When you enter the outskirts of the tomb, two garden students will flee. One will scream “Float!” as she goes. The Float spell will be useful in an upcoming battle. While you can draw Float from a draw point inside the tomb, you can encounter Thrustaevis enemies in the plains outside to draw Float from them to secure more stock.

Before entering the labyrinth, check a Protect draw point to your left if you need more stock of it. Use the Save Point to your right. When ready, enter the labyrinth. If you do not wish to explore, head up until you find a four-way intersection. Examine the sword on the ground to get the student ID. Fully exploring the ruins is recommended as a new GF can be acquired within.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Before exploring, note that the map can be deceiving. The labyrinth has four visually distinct areas: a vertical passage, a right-only passage, a left-only passage, and a four-way intersection. You always appear on the bottom of the screen when entering a new area.
  2. 2
When navigating four-way intersections, visualize your party as an arrow moving across the map. Going down returns you to the previous screen and flips your orientation 180 degrees. Going up advances you in your current facing direction. Turning left or right changes your orientation by 90 degrees.
  3. 3
Shortly into the tomb, you will find the student ID.

Monsters in the Tomb:

The Tomb of the Unknown King is occupied by four types of monster: Armadodo, Blobra, Buel, and Forbidden. All are susceptible to Card Mod (a community-made modification that changes the game). Be wary of Buel’s low HP if you wish to avoid gaining EXP.

  • Armadodo: Moderate HP (around 1,000 per 10 levels until level 50). Critical hits can incapacitate them. You can Mug them for Turtle Shells. They drop M-Stone Pieces, Magic Stones, Wizard Stones, Sharp Spikes, and Turtle Shells. You can draw Protect, Shell, and Quake from them.
  • Blobra: Have random elemental resistances/weaknesses and high resistance to physical damage. Use elemental magic junctioned to Elemental Attack. They drop Magic Stones and can be Mugged for Rune Armlets. They cast Cure, Cura, Curaga, Esuna, Slow, and Stop. You can draw Shell, Berserk, Blind, Confuse, and Reflect from them.
  • Buel: Under level 20, they use melee attacks, Fire, and Thunder. At levels 20-29, they gain Reflect, Death, Fira, and Thundara. At levels 30+, their -ara magics become -aga tier. They drop M-Stone Pieces, Magic Stones, and Wizard Stones. At levels 20+, you can Mug them for a Circlet. You can draw Blizzard, Fire, Thunder, and their -ara/-aga versions from them.
  • Forbidden: Undead with high HP and moderate physical damage. They can inflict Blind, Silence, Sleep, and Stop status effects. They can instantly kill with Iai Blow (at low HP) and Death (at level 20+). They can be Mugged for Dead Spirit items. They drop Betrayal Swords, Dead Spirits, and Zombie Powder.
