Guide to Final Fantasy VIII Remastered's Laguna Dream: The Actor Knight. Learn how to defeat the Ruby Dragon, draw powerful spells like Meteor and Flare, and manage junctions.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Set your "Junction Party." Note that only Laguna (as Squall) and Kiros may be available. Ward joins if you haven't picked up Timber Maniacs #9.
  2. 2
The dream begins with Laguna forced into acting.
  3. 3
Laguna dons knightly attire and meets co-stars. Kiros is cast as the dragon.
  4. 4
A mini-game begins where you must fight the dragon.
  5. 5
Use the [Talk] button (default: Square) to block attacks and the [Walk/Cancel] button (default: Circle) to attack.
  6. 6
Start with a block, then mash [Walk/Cancel] to attack. Repeat until victorious.
  7. 7
The dragon has two attacks: a long, rearing attack and a quick lunge.
  8. 8
It takes three hits to defeat Laguna (in which case, try again); the dragon cannot block.
  9. 9
After the dragon encounter, choose the dialogue option "H-Hold on a sec…" to get a chance to change your junctions and use a Save Point.
  10. 10
Prepare for the Ruby Dragon fight: Ensure your party has high fire and wind resistance (preferably immunity). Equip LV Up, LV Down, and Draw commands on a character with the Tonberry GF. Consider equipping Recover and Card commands.
  11. 11
Use Tonberry's LV Up ability on the Ruby Dragon until Flare and Meteor spells are available in its draw list.
  12. 12
Draw Flare and Meteor spells from the Ruby Dragon. Use Recover to heal.
  13. 13
Once you have the desired spells, use LV Down on the Ruby Dragon until it is at its lowest level.
  14. 14
    Finish the Ruby Dragon.
Tips
  • The "Junction Party" selection only determines who gains XP, not who has junctions equipped.
  • The dragon mini-game is similar to Squall's duel with the paratrooper but simplified.
  • If you fail the dragon mini-game, you can attempt it again immediately.
  • The Ruby Dragon is one of the strongest normal monsters. Its spell and drop tables change at levels 1-34, 35-44, and 45-100.
  • Level 45+ Ruby Dragons offer Flare and Meteor spells, which are highly valuable.
  • Use LV Up to increase the Ruby Dragon's level to access better spells, but be aware its stats will also increase.
  • With good HP-J junctions and Leviathan's Recover ability, you can sustain high HP and heal effectively against the Ruby Dragon.
  • Lowering the Ruby Dragon's level with LV Down after drawing spells minimizes XP gain.
