GF - Alexander: Alexander's Spr-J ability is not significant for stat boosts. Its Med Data ability doubles medicine potency, and Med LV Up allows upgrading healing items. High Mag-RF can refine mid-level spells into high-level ones (e.g., Blizzara to Blizzaga). To obtain Triple spells, refine Grendel cards into Dragon Fins, then use Mid Mag-RF to get Double spells, and finally High Mag-RF to get Triple. If you lack three GFs with Elem Def-Jx4, junction Alexander to the Ifrit-user. Also, if you missed Rosetta Stones, Alexander provides Ability x3, which is needed for the Ifrit user.

Meeting Matron: Enter the orphanage on the world map. Speak with Cid, then grab Timber Maniacs #11 from the floor. Follow Cid outside and approach him and Edea. Challenge Edea to a card game using the Centra/Winhill ruleset (Random and Same/Plus). Win the Edea card from her, which has A-strength on the top and right sides. Edea refines into three Royal Crown items, but it's better to keep the card. Edea will then explain about sorceresses Adel and Ultimecia. Walk away from Cid and Edea to advance the conversation.

Weapons Mon Jul and Combat King 003: Return to Balamb Garden and go to the 1F lobby. Before talking to Rinoa, enter the Training Center. In the first screen, go up and left to the next screen. Work your way left around two fallen trees to find an issue of Weapons Mon Jul on the right side of the metal walkway. This magazine teaches recipes for Twin Lance, Rising Sun, Ulysses, and Crescent Wish weapons.

Combat King 003: To get this magazine, ensure Zell is in your party. Travel to the city of Balamb. On the gas station screen, talk to a girl in a red skirt who mentions a girl at the Garden with a pigtail. Go to Zell's house and talk to Ma Dincht. Visit the inn and sleep. Upon waking, head downstairs to find Zell talking to the pigtailed girl in the hotel lobby. After this interaction, you will acquire Combat King 003, which teaches Zell the Meteor Barret limit ability.
