Learn how to tackle the first real battle in Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, including enemy placements, Geo Symbol strategies, and character building tips.

Alright, so you've made it to the first real fight in the castle, and it's a bit of a doozy! You're up against a Lv. 2 Red Skull, two Lv. 2 Hobbits, and six Lv. 1 Ghosts. That's a total of nine enemies, and things can get rough if you don't handle the Geo Symbols right away.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Right off the bat, you'll notice a Geo Symbol near you. This one is boosting the enemies ahead of you by Enemy Boost x3. That's a huge buff, so you absolutely need to destroy it.
  2. 2
After you break the first Geo Symbol, grab the adjacent one (it says EXP + 50%) and toss it onto the field below where you came in. This does a couple of things: it damages any enemies that were standing on it, and it boosts the EXP you'll get from defeating enemies. Plus, your bonus gauge will go up!
  3. 3
Three Ghosts will likely emerge from the castle gate. Take them out with your characters.
  4. 4
Be super careful and try to keep your distance from the Red Skull. It hits the hardest out of all the enemies here.
  5. 5
Once the Ghosts are dealt with, focus on the remaining enemies. If you played your Geo Symbol cards right, they should be significantly weakened.
  6. 6
You can break the EXP + 50% Geo Symbol after the fight if you want to push your bonus gauge even higher, but it's not strictly necessary.
Tips
  • Don't underestimate the Red Skull; it's the biggest threat on the field.
  • Manipulating the Geo Symbols is key to making this fight much easier and more rewarding in terms of EXP.
  • After this battle, it's a good idea to head to the hospital. Consider creating a male Warrior at the Dark Assembly – they're pretty solid, especially early on. Grab a decent axe for them if you can.
  • If you need to level up your new character or just want some practice, use the Practice Map in the Tutorial area.
  • Once you're prepped, you'll be ready to enter the Blessed Court.
