Explore the Mini-Crossbow (Darts), Sniper Rifle, Assault Rifle, and Assault Shotgun in Deus Ex. Learn about their ammo types, damage, accuracy, and effectiveness.

This section covers various weapons available in Deus Ex, detailing their effectiveness, ammo types, and associated skills.

Mini-Crossbow - Darts

The Mini-Crossbow can be loaded with Darts, offering a silent and lethal alternative to the Pistol. Aiming for the head is recommended for kill shots, and skill point investment enhances its effectiveness. Darts can also be used to distract enemies by firing them into a wall, drawing their attention away and allowing for stealthy passage. Unused Darts can be retrieved from the environment.

Mini-Crossbow - Tranquilizer Darts

When loaded with Tranquilizer Darts, the Mini-Crossbow incapacitates targets. After being hit, retreat until the effect takes hold, rendering the enemy unconscious. Patience may be required to wait out alarmed enemies or alarms. Environmental Resistance can reduce the damage from enemy Tranq. Darts. The darts are tipped with a succinylcholine-variant causing skeletal muscle relaxation while the target remains conscious. The initial strike deals 'Poison' damage, which is more effective when hitting the head. Subsequent 'PoisonEffect' damage to the torso is 8 times the initial strike. If a target's HP reaches 0 due to PoisonEffect, they fall unconscious. PoisonEffect hits are not affected by the Pistol skill, though the initial Poison strike is.

Mini-Crossbow - Flare Darts

Flare Darts are considered largely ineffective. They have a single use and are not typically fatal, though they can set crates aflame.

PS20

The PS20 deals fire damage, resulting in reduced effectiveness against bots (25% damage), Commandoes (50% damage), and Grays (no damage). It can set crates aflame.

Weapons: Rifle

This category includes assault rifles, sniper rifles, and shotguns. Skill levels affect accuracy and damage:

  • Untrained: Base accuracy and damage.
  • Trained: 4% accuracy increase, 20% damage increase.
  • Advanced: 12% accuracy increase, 50% damage increase, no movement penalty.
  • Master: 25% accuracy increase, 100% damage increase.

The Sniper Rifle is particularly useful, with its scope shaking significantly when untrained. Training improves its usability.

Heavy weapons are boosted by the Targeting Augmentation:

  • Level 1: 10% damage increase
  • Level 2: 20% damage increase
  • Level 3: 30% damage increase
  • Level 4: 40% damage increase

Assault Rifle - 7.62x51MM Ammo (NATO)

The automatic Assault Rifle fires rapidly but deals very little damage, less than the Pistol or Stealth Pistol. Severe spread and recoil issues exist unless upgraded, and ammo is scarce, making shootouts generally undesirable. The real name of the Assault Rifle is ZHL-U1953.

Assault Rifle - HE Ammo

The 20MM High-Explosive (HE) Rounds are rare but powerful. This secondary fire mode acts as an inferior GEP Gun, taking up less inventory space. It has a larger blast radius but deals less damage than the GEP Gun, and its descending trajectory makes it unsuitable for long-range targets or targets in close proximity. It is a helpful option for players focusing on Rifles who do not carry a GEP Gun.

Assault Shotgun - 12 Gauge Buckshot Shells

The Assault Shotgun is only superior to the (Stealth) Pistol in direct combat, which is generally to be avoided. It deals slightly less damage than the Sawed-Off but fires faster and has a larger clip. At higher training levels, it can be instantly fatal to regular human targets.

Assault Shotgun - Sabot Shells

Sabot Shells are also available for the Assault Shotgun.
