How the Grand Slam Minigame Works:

Grand Slam is a battle solely between monsters. You select 3 monsters to fight an opposing team of 3 monsters. If you win, you advance to the next round. Each round requires you to choose different monsters, meaning you can use up to 9 different monsters in total. Monsters function like regular characters with standard attacks, Elemental Power Levels, and Element Grids. Their hit rate is significantly higher, allowing for frequent Fierce attacks from the start. After winning the third round, you complete the Grand Slam, and Janice, the previous champion, will ask to join your party. You cannot re-enter the Grand Slam as there are no opponents strong enough.

How to Get More Monsters for Grand Slam:

The monsters available for Grand Slam are the same ones used for Sprigg’s Doppelgang ability. To obtain new Doppelgang monsters, finish off monsters using Sprigg in her normal form (not monster form), or use a character equipped with the Forget-me-not Pot.

Recommended Monsters for Grand Slam:

While you can win with the default monsters, these recommended monsters can make it easier:

  • Taurminator: Found in Mount Pyre in Home World.
  • Cybot: Found in Fort Dragonia in Home World.
  • Puffy: Found underwater in the El Nido Triangle in Home World.
  • Wight Knight: Found on the Isle of the Damned in Home World.

Best Strategy to Win the Grand Slam:

Round 1:

  • Recommended Team: Wraith, Lagoonate, and either a Snib/Snob Goblin or one of the recommended monsters (Taurminator, Cybot, Puffy, Wight Knight). If using default monsters, use Wraith, Beach Bum, and Komodo Pup, but prioritize swapping Beach Bum and Komodo Pup with Lagoonate.
  • Opponents: Taurminator, Beeba, and Gloop.
  • Strategy: The Taurminator is the toughest opponent. If you have Lagoonate, it can solo this fight. Otherwise, use the Wraith's standard attacks to build Elemental Power Level, then attempt to OHKO the Taurminator with Hellbound+2. If the Wraith falls or you fail, Run Away and retry. Once the Taurminator is defeated, use the Wraith's standard attacks and HellSoul to OHKO the remaining foes.
  • Reward: Stamina Belt.

Round 2:

  • Recommended Team: Wight Knight (if obtained), or Cybot and/or Puffy. If using default monsters, use Lagoonate and a bulky monster like Cat Burglar or a goblin.
  • Opponents: Cybot, Spearfisher, and Gobledygook.
  • Strategy: This is the hardest round. Focus on using Fierce attacks with your strongest monster (Wight Knight or Lagoonate) against the Cybot. Beware of its Beaten Earth attack. If your main monster is hit by Beaten Earth, the fight can become difficult, especially with default monsters. Use Lagoonate's Just4Kicks Tech if needed.
  • Reward: Resistance Belt.

Round 3:

  • Recommended Team: Taurminator, Total Chaos, and Crossbones. If using default monsters, ensure you have Total Chaos and Crossbones, with the third slot being less critical.
  • Opponents: Varies, but generally less challenging than Round 2.
  • Strategy: This round is likely the easiest. Use the Taurminator's Fierce attacks and Charge ability. If using default monsters, focus on aggressive attacks.
Tips
  • To obtain monsters like the Taurminator before reaching Garai’s grave, lure a Will o’ Wisp to the headless statue and fight it there.
  • The monsters’ hit rate is much higher in Grand Slam, so you can often use Fierce attacks from the get-go.
  • If you fail a round, you can Run Away and try again.
