Defeat General Cassius the Betrayer in v rising. Learn his location in the Ruins of Mortium and strategies to counter his Nightfall Edge.

Location: General Cassius roams the paths across the Ruins of Mortium, often accompanied by lesser Draculin. Teleport to a Vampiric Waygate on the west side of the ruins, track his blood, and stay on the paths to find him.

Strategy:

  1. Cassius has several attacks, but most can be avoided with a dodge.
  2. When he summons his sentient blade, Nightfall Edge, he takes reduced damage and casts ranged attacks that summon minions.
  3. Destroy Nightfall Edge immediately.
  4. Pick up the downed sword and throw it back at Cassius to stun him.
  5. Use the stun duration to deal significant damage.
  6. This mechanic repeats throughout the fight; exploit it every time.
  7. Outside of this mechanic, focus on dodging his other attacks.

Cassius' Attacks:

  • Cleave: He walks towards you and performs a wide horizontal slash, sometimes followed by another. Dodge toward it if possible, or back away if your dodge is on cooldown.
  • Unholy Circle: He places a red circular marker on the floor, and a pillar of Unholy energy rises. Stay out of the circle to avoid damage.
  • Unholy Slam: Cassius leaps into the air and slams down, dealing Unholy damage. A large circular marker appears on the floor. Dodge as he lands, or run out of the circle the moment he jumps.
  • Nightfall Edge: He summons his sentient blade, tethered to him. This reduces your damage to him and allows him to cast ranged projectiles that summon undead. He also summons other Draculin. Destroy the sword quickly, pick it up, and throw it back at him to stun him.
Tips
  • Focus 100% on destroying Nightfall Edge as soon as it appears to minimize the number of additional enemies you face.
  • Use the Sword ability “Whirlwind” to quickly deal with summoned enemies.
  • If your dodge is on cooldown during a Cleave attack, back away to create distance before dodging through it.
  • For Unholy Slam, run away the second he leaps, or use your dodge just as he is about to land.
  • For Unholy Circle, simply move out of the marked area.
