Learn how to navigate the vast world of Daggerfall! Discover travel options, speed, transport, and resting choices to reach your destinations efficiently.

Alright, so you've got the lay of the land (or you will soon enough!), and now it's time to actually get around. Daggerfall's world is massive, with over 50 different kingdoms to explore. Getting from point A to point B is handled through the world map, which you can bring up by hitting 'W' or by clicking that little map icon in your toolbar. Think of it as your personal fast-travel system, but with a bit more flavor.

When you first open the map, you'll see all the kingdoms laid out. Click on one to zoom in and see the individual towns and points of interest within it. You can even right-click to zoom in further if you need a closer look. Down at the bottom, there are filters to help you hide or show certain types of locations, which can be super handy when you're trying to find something specific.

Once you've picked your destination, click on it, and you'll get the travel window. This is where the real choices come in, and they actually matter!

1. Speed: Cautiously or Recklessly

  • Recklessly: This is your speed demon option. It's nearly twice as fast as traveling cautiously, but here's the catch: you won't get much rest. You'll arrive in pretty much the same condition you left, and you might even show up at night. Not ideal if you're a vampire or have that 'Damage in Sunlight' thing, because you'll *always* arrive at night. Talk about inconvenient!
  • Cautiously: This is the slower, more deliberate approach. You'll arrive fully rested, and always during the day, often right at dawn. Plus, since it counts as resting, you might even find some of your skills have leveled up a bit during the journey. Pretty neat, huh?

2. Transport: Foot/horse or Ship

  • This mostly matters when you're crossing water. Traveling by ship is way faster, but it'll cost you more gold. Now, if you've managed to buy your own ship (yes, you can do that!), then crossing water is totally free. Also, owning a horse generally makes all your land travel a bit quicker.

3. Stop for night at...: Inns or Camp out

  • Inns: These will shave a little time off your journey and get you rested, but they cost extra gold.
  • Camp out: This is the free option. You'll just set up camp wherever you are.

At the bottom of the travel window, you'll always see an estimate of how long your trip will take and how much it's going to cost. Keep in mind, too, that the direction your destination is from your current location determines which edge of town you'll arrive on. Headed north? You'll likely hit the southern edge of town.

Here's a little trick: sometimes it's smart to travel Recklessly to a town *near* your actual destination, and then switch to Cautiously for the final leg. This gets you there fast but also well-rested. You can even use the arrival direction trick to land exactly where you want to be. Pretty handy!
