Your first big boss fight! Learn Vidarr's stats, weaknesses, and the strategy to take him down in Martel Temple. Plus, tips for the Golem puzzle afterward.

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • Name: Vidarr
  • Location: Martel Temple
  • HP: 4,000
  • TP: 30
  • XP: 115
  • ATK: 210
  • DEF: 21
  • Gald: 25
  • Items dropped: Life Bottle
  • Steal: None
  • Elemental Info.: AA: None, Weak: None, Strong: None

Phases:

  1. Phase 1: Vidarr alone. Use a Magic Lens immediately to track his HP. Your main goal here is to just keep attacking and don't let him get too many free hits in. If he starts his guard animation mid-combo, block ASAP to minimize damage.
  2. Phase 2: Kratos joins. After you've dealt about 500 damage, a cutscene will play, and Kratos will join your party. Keep up the offensive pressure; don't give Vidarr a break.

Strategy:

  • As soon as the battle begins, whip out that Magic Lens! You'll want to keep an eye on his HP throughout the fight.
  • Focus on attacking Vidarr right from the start. The key is to not give him an opening to counterattack.
  • If you see Vidarr start to guard while he's in the middle of a combo, be ready to guard yourself as soon as possible. This will help you take way less damage.
  • Once you've chipped away about 500 HP, a scene will trigger and the mercenary Kratos will join the fight. Don't let up the assault! Keep attacking non-stop until he's defeated.
  • Don't sweat this first boss too much – it's designed to be a learning experience!

After the battle, you'll get to see a scene and then gain control of Lloyd with Kratos now in your party. You'll find yourselves in a room with three paths. Take the 'E' path, and when you reach the end, head down the stairs.

You'll enter a new room, and another scene will play. After that, you'll fight a Golem, and the scene will continue. This room has a unique floor layout with holes and stairs. The Golems you defeat will turn into rocks, which you need to push into specific holes to progress.

Here's the breakdown for the Golem puzzle:

  1. Defeat a Golem and push the resulting rock into the middle hole on the right side (hole [6]).
  2. Defeat another Golem and push that rock into the middle hole on the left side (hole [4]).
  3. Head down the stairs to the southeast (SE).
  4. Go up the right path and push a block west (W) so it falls into an opening.
  5. Cross this new bridge to find a chest containing a 'Life Bottle'.
  6. Now, do the same for the other side: push a block into the middle hole on the right side (hole [6]).
  7. Go down the stairs to the southwest (SW).
  8. Go up the path to the left and push a block east (E).
  9. Cross this bridge to get a 'Panacea Bottle' from a chest.
  10. Go back up and defeat two more Golems. Push both of these rocks into the middle hole on the upper side (hole [2]).
  11. Head down the stairs, go up the path, and push the second rock north (N) to complete the stone bridge.
  12. Cross this bridge, and a scene will trigger. You'll learn how to use the Sorcerer's Ring by pressing the [X] Button. This ring can freeze enemies, which is super useful for avoiding battles, so definitely remember that!
  13. Return to the floor with all the holes and go up the stairs on the northwest (NW) side.

In the next room, just follow the path. You'll find three chests containing '250 Gald', a 'Life Bottle', and an 'Apple Gel'.

Now, head back to the very first room you were in (the one with the three-way split). Go up the 'N' path and use your Sorcerer's Ring on the wall. This will open up a warp portal, so step through it.

At the top, another scene will play. After it's done, chat with your party members, then head back down the warp portal and make your way back to Iselia.

Once you arrive back in Iselia, turn right and go to Colette's house (the one with the well outside). A scene will trigger inside. After that, you need to go to Genis' house, which is on the west side of town (the one with the water puddle outside). Enter it, another scene plays, and Genis will teach you about cooking! Pretty neat, huh?

Next, head to the school and talk to Raine. Genis will earn the title
