Boss Battle: Mecha Sonic - 8 Hits

When Mecha Sonic appears in the center of the screen, use Sonic's Insta-Shield (a defensive move that creates a temporary shield around Sonic) to hit him. Although eight spheres are protecting Mecha Sonic, you'll still get score hits against him and you won't get hurt. If you are playing as Tails, you can fly up and hit him. As long as Mecha Sonic remains in the air, you won't get hurt if you attack him. This is due to a glitch, which wasn't in the original Metropolis Zone Boss. When you hit Mecha Sonic, he'll release one of the eight spheres and stay in the air. If you destroy the spheres, Mecha Sonic will descend, so it is advised to ignore them and concentrate on hitting him.

Tips
  • If playing as Tails, flying up to attack Mecha Sonic while he is airborne is a viable strategy.
  • Focus your attacks on Mecha Sonic himself and do not waste time destroying the protective spheres.
  • Exploit the glitch that keeps Mecha Sonic airborne and damageable without harm to you.
